ZomNomNom is a cool zombie game that sees you blasting chunks out of the oncoming undead in an a dramatic action shooter. You are a character named Red and you have to lead a lone-woman fight against the oncoming masses. The game is well developed, often very tense and double-barrels of zombie-culling fun.
Price: Free or $0.99 for the full version
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Medium Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Nice graphics with great animation!
- Immersive sound!
- Simple but engaging gameplay!
- Lots of weapons/zombies/levels!
Cons
- Can’t figure out the difference between the free and the paid for version, both seem to be the same freemium-style game.
- Early dialogue boxes get in the way of UI tabs.
Features:
ZomNomNom is pure zombie-blasting action game that sees you pitted against several zombie types that are hungry to chomp on you! Essentially you control Red, a day time receptionist. Well, more to the point you control her trigger finger and batting arm. As the zombies approach use the weapons at your disposal to take them down. There are 50 levels to wade through and some 6 different zombie types to mow down.
To play the game all you have to do is tap the screen in the direction of the oncoming zombie. Now and then a zombie will drop coins which you can collect for later. You have to watch your ammo levels as running out can be disastrous and may require you use the baseball bat you have as back-up. This works but isn’t particularly effective against the tougher zombs. You can switch between weapons via green, red and blue buttons at the bottom.
The levels get progressively harder but each is separated by a session at the gun shop which allows you to buy more ammo and weapons. Now, as you blast zombies you can collect coins which can be spent in the shop. There are 35 weapon types to purchase but I found that the game usually allows you to buy just enough ammo to last the next level with some progress towards better weaponry is slow- you might just have to rely more on your baseball bat if you want to buy new weapons which is pretty risky.
Here’s where a little confusion sets in. I downloaded both the paid for version and the free version and I can’t tell the difference between them. Both feature the same ‘freemium’ style; no ads and opportunities to make in-app purchases. I think this model works well if the game is free, but buying a game only to require additional in-app purchases to make progress? I’m not sure if that’s particularly fair.

Fun Factor:
ZomNomNom is a simple game that lets you blast away at zombies. Now, I’ve played more games on Android than I care to recollect and the opportunity to wipe out the undead is always fun.
Addictive:
The game is addictive in that is offers straight forward controls, fun gameplay and a nice learning curve. I’m still not sure about the use of a freemium model in a game you pay for. Either the developers should make it far easier to upgrade and buy weapons in the paid-for version, or just stick with a free game with in-app purchasing options.
As a reviewer this isn’t a big deal, but if I had bought the paid-for version I’d feel more than a little ripped off if I then realized the free version was exactly the same.
Graphics:
The UI and menu graphics are cool comic-style drawings while the in-action visuals are 2D and well animated. The graphics overall are nothing to get too excited about (it’s not Dead Trigger) but work well with the simple and fun gameplay.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is eerie and atmospheric with great effects when shooting, collecting coins, and being chomped on by the zombies.
