Features:

Zombieville is an excellent side scrolling shooter for the Android platform from the creators of the game Battleheart! Zombieville features multiple playable characters, upgradeable weapons, drivable vehicles, various types of zombies, and abandoned houses to loot! Yes, this game is a zombie killing epic fun fest!

You play as one of the seven characters in the game. Each one has different strengths and weaknesses. I preferred to play as the SWAT Man. His specialty is firearms and does extra damage with guns, but has an extremely weak melee attack. I liked the SWAT Man because I found myself to very rarely use melee weapons in the game. Instead I preferred mowing down my enemies with an auto-shotgun or mini-gun. Each of the different characters fits a different play style and represents a unique challenge which helps increase the replay value of this side scroller.

The basic story line of the game is the same as every other zombie survival game. Zombies are coming out of the woodwork and you are one of the lone survivors. In order to make it out of the zombie infested town alive you must loot abandoned homes, find survivors, and slaughter the zombie hordes on your way to freedom!

The controls are very basic. There are four on screen buttons. Two are for movement controls, left and right; the other two are for your attacks: melee and weapons. The controls for the game were fairly responsive though I was a little disappointed that there was no support for the Xperia Play. To interact with vehicles or enter buildings all you had to do was tap on the vehicle or building and your character would enter it.

Buildings are treated similar to treasure chests in this game. They contain ammunition, cash, and other survivors to help you complete the game. Once you enter a building you can stay in it indefinitely until you hit one of the movement keys. This also allows you to hide from the zombies temporarily in order to come up with a new plan of attack.

Vehicles are incredibly powerful, but also have a large drawback. Once you enter a vehicle it will drive through the entire level killing zombies until you reach the end and are able to exit. You have no control of the vehicle and a level which would normally take 3 minutes may take only 30 seconds. The downside of this easy way out is that it prevents you from looting all the buildings in the level and picking up all of the extra cash and ammunition awaiting inside.

At the end of every level you are able to spend your cash on weapons, munitions, and health. The only place in the game where you can find health is in the store between levels so cash is extremely important. As you purchase new weapons you are able to upgrade them to obtain higher firepower and better rates of fire. There are many fun weapons to use throughout the game: chainsaws, katanas, mini-guns, shotguns, pistols, bazookas, and even flamethrowers. This game really tries to make you have fun while slaughtering zombies!

As far as I can tell the game is endless with new zombies being introduced slowing and then eventually just receiving upgrades in strength with each new level. None of the zombies present too much of a challenge, with the right equipment and the right tactics and the endless level progression makes a great way to spend some spare time on a boring day.

Fun Factor:

Zombieville is an extremely fun side-scrolling zombie survival game. The touch screen controls work better than many others that I have played in the past, the gameplay is entertaining and allows you to travel a bit off the beaten path with house looting, and the various weapons make the game enjoyable to play for hours on end!

Addictive:

Zombieville is highly addictive to play. The game provides many options to customize to your own personal playing style. This is done through the use of various characters and weapons throughout the game. The “gotta have them all” concept really hit me when playing this game.

I found a glitch while playing. Where I would get to the very end of the level and then just kill zombies to get money until I had enough to purchase my next gun, or until I felt I couldn’t control the zombies any longer. Even little things like this keeps you in the game much longer than you originally expect when you first start to play it.

Graphics:

The graphics of Zombieville are very similar to those in Battleheart. In other words they are interesting cartoon characters made in a similar fashion to the cartoon models in Castle Crashers or Alien Homid for Xbox 360. Most players show the environments and character models and the cartoon aspect just adds to the ambiance of the game. However, if you are looking for a game that is console quality or that is from a three-dimensional perspective Zombieville may not be for you.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

Zombieville makes no use of either vibration or of the phone’s accelerometer, but it does have an excellent soundtrack. Just starting the game up induces a spooky ghostly sound effect and asks you if you are sure you want to continue. The music does a good job of developing that same goofy scary element and carries that as far as it can go to add to both the graphics and the gameplay in creating an excellent gaming environment.

Should you Download Zombieville USA? Yes. Zombieville is an excellent side scrolling zombie survival shooter for Android. It features multiple playable characters, upgradeable weapons, loot-able houses, other survivors, and vehicles with which to create zombie massacres. Unfortunately, Zombieville does not feature a social achievement system like OpenFeint or multi-player support. Making it impossible to compete with other players. If you don’t care about competition and just want to destroy some zombies then Zombieville is the game for you. If you want a multi-player massacre then look elsewhere.
