Zombies… OMG! is a cool blend of both tycoon and RPG game. The game boasts impressive graphics, a fun storyline, loads of missions, lots of weapons and things to collect and an adorable set of characters to interact with. Beneath the exterior there is, however, a strong element to invest in the game via in-app purchases. The game is free to play, but there is an abundance of presented opportunities to use real-world money to progress.

Price: Free, with In-app Purchase Options

AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Large online community!
  • Lots of cool missions!
  • Plenty of sweet characters!
  • Smart graphics!
  • Comic violence with a variety of weapons!
  • Polished interface!

Cons

  • Slow progress unless you get your wallet out.

Features:

Zombies… OMG! is a fantastic romp; mixing accumulative tycoon style gameplay with online RPG elements, social networking and hilarious zombie slaying. You essentially have a series of mini missions to complete as you move towards rescuing family members (your puppy first obviously!) and rebuilding your neighbourhood which has been overrun with loads of daft zombies.

Graphics are pretty slick and look quite detailed and smooth. The menu graphics are also incredibly polished and nice to use. Beneath the exterior of characterised zombie-kind, cute characters and buildings, there is a powerful tycoon game where you are persistently having to expand, upgrade, improve and progress. There are various little missions to work towards this goal; such as wiping out so many handyman zombies with a SMG or beating to death several Lawyer zombies with a baseball bat. :P Then you have regular bonuses, energy to manage and things to buy.

There is a lot to love about Zombie… OMG! It’s incredibly immersive and fun to play. Game controls are intuitive, move your character around my tapping, double tap a zombie to attack. The zombies themselves are generally quite placid, they just mooch about, without attacking you unless you have a go at them first. The game feels quite alive, and there is often something new to find every day; whether it be a new offer or extra bonuses.

It’s a game however that really wants you to take out your wallet or purse and actually invest real money. You can invest in Papayas (which can be accumulated across most Papaya mobile games) and you also accumulate these by regular gameplay. These can be exchanged for diamonds in Zombies… OMG! and you really need these to make any headway. You often get points where you are given the option to complete a task using one or more diamonds, and you are quickly and slickly taken to the in-game Marketplace to do so. Unless you do invest in this way (and, thankfully the currency is quite good value) the game is going to take a long time to complete. This is a slight shame because it means that you can only play the game for so long without having to wait for energy to refill, or bonuses to become available.

Fun Factor:

Zombies… OMG! is a fun game, full of character and lots of enjoy. Building your weapon arsenal, completing mini missions, saving your friends, exploring the neighbourhood and beating zombies to death is loads of fun while your energy lasts. There are frequent prompts to spend money in the game which removes this shiny veneer somewhat, but unless you want to spend money you might have to be patient.

Addictive:

The constantly changing online gameplay, frequent bonuses and things to do keeps you going back for more. While you find yourself often running out of energy the game will notify you when it’s built back up again. There’s loads and loads of things to buy and accumulate and these increase as you progress. One thing that absolutely resounds in comments on the Android Market is how addictive users find the game. It’s a brilliant example of a high quality socially-aware tycoon game which lets you make friends and help each other out. It’s a brilliantly deployed platform that is highly engaging.

Graphics:

The graphics are rich and work very well. I noted the occasional lag with the game but this wasn’t enough to really complain about. Everything is bright, well animated and in many ways the game feels quite alive when you play it. There’s a vibrancy you perhaps do not see on other games which is refreshing here.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

The sound is OK, but a little disappointing. There are different sound effects but I kinda wished there were more, maybe some music and other atmospheric effects would improve the game a little. You can switch on or off the sound effects and vibration (which you feel whenever a Zombie hits you back) so you have control over this.

Should you Download Zombies… OMG!? Zombies… OMG! is a brilliantly delivered tycoon/RPG mash-up game that has brilliant graphics, immersive gameplay and missions, levels, characters, weapons and bonuses galore. There’s loads to explore, a buzzing online community and plenty of fun to be had. The game might feel slow in progress unless you spend real money in-app, but you can still get a lot out of the game even if you don’t. In-app currency purchases are actually quite reasonably priced, which was nice to see and are worth getting if you become addicted to the game. It’s free, so definitely have a look, especially if zombies, tycoon games and RPG’s are your kind of thing!
