Zombie Road Trip is a zombie game. It’s also a freemium title. Additionally it’s a side-scrolling physics-based racer. It ticks more game cliche boxes than I care to type about and should be exactly the kind of game that is so common in the Google Play Store, it should somehow bore us to tears with its over familiarity. But… but somehow… I just can’t put it down.
Price: Free with optional In-app Purchases.
Tested on: Nexus 4
Content Rating: Medium Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Neat graphics!
- Cool sound!
- Loads of upgrades!
- Addictive and rewarding!
Cons
- It’s a freemium and you have to work quite hard for serious upgrades.
- No tilt control.
Features:
Zombie Road Trip is one of those physics-based racing games where you scoot along, collecting coins, upgrading and performing stunts. It has a zombie theme and you are essentially escaping a horde of very angry-looking undead as well as running/shooting down individual zombies as they walk towards you.
The vehicle you are in accelerates automatically and you have two onscreen buttons (flip forward and flip backwards) that allow you to perform stunts. Tapping the screen elsewhere sees you firing a weapon which is helpful in taking out oncoming zombs. The further you progress, the higher your score and the number of coins you are awarded at the end. The coins can be sued to upgrade vehicles, weapons and add gadgets.
Watch on Mobile
Each time you jump and land you are notified if the jump was good or not. The statements range from ‘Crap Landing’ to ‘Perfect Landing’ and you also awarded a boost for the better ones. The boosts help put space between yourself and the zombie horde but you essentially keep going until they eventually catch you. Zombies you crash into slow you down, as do bad landings. The aim of the game is to get as far as you can without being caught.
Despite this being exactly the type of game I’ve played before and got increasing bored with, I found Zombie Road Trip to be surprisingly addictive and lots of fun to play. It is a freemium game but you can collect free coins quite rapidly if you play the game a lot.

Fun Factor:
The game is lots of fun and it’s great top pull of ambitious stunts and flips. With the zombies always only just behind you there is a thrilling sense of jeopardy that adds to the excitement.
Addictive:
In the past I have absolutely had my fill of games like this but I still found myself quite engrossed in this one. It’s casual gameplay and gradually accumulative element mean it’s something you can easily just pick up and play in short bursts.
Graphics:
The graphics are two dimensional but rich in cartoony detail and animation.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Unfortunately there is no use of the accelerometer for tilting purposes in the game, however, the music is muscly and bouncy.
