AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Official WordPress Android App
  • Edit WordPress blog while mobile
  • Edit WordPress.com host blog too
  • Added feature to edit Pages

Cons

  • Spin-off of wpToGo with slight feature enhancements (thus far)
  • Editing via XML-RPC (some security risks)

Features:

Wordpress Android App allows you to edit your Wordpress blog, either self hosted or Wordpress.com from Android phones. It actually is a fork for Dan Roundhill’s wpToGo Android App, with virtually the same features except a few add-ons. One of the biggest perks; in time this app will grow to be a great open source app as just as the blogging platform is; 3rd party developers will be able to write plugins for the app.

Create and edit blog posts either locally, post a draft or publish to the blog. Moderate comments, and even create and edit Pages. Within the posts you can do limited formatting and add images from your phone. With this iteration, you can edit your WordPress.com hosted blog as well.

Feature Enhancements over wpToGo:

  • Reply to Comments
  • Edit Pages
  • Easier setup of initial blog (no need to know your XML-RPC URL)

Usefulness:

If you have a Wordpress blog and an Android phone, you’ll find this app very useful.

Ease of Use:

There are a simple set of tools you can use to manage you Wordpress blog while mobile.

You must enable XML-RPC protocol must me enabled, to do so:

  • Enable the XML RPC protocol in your WordPress admin section under “Settings” then “Writing”.
  • Check the box “Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.”

Frequently Used:

For Wordpress bloggers this app could be used as often as they blog.

Interface:

The user interface is optimal for mobile blogging.

I’m kinda shocked this didn’t rate higher. Every time I fire this app up, I’m amazed at how useful it is. Being able to moderate comments is HUGE!

You list the app’s origins as a con. Why?

  2. Craig says:

I run a couple of wordpress blogs and just got the Eris, so I’ll be downloading this to try out for remote/event reporting.

Thanks for the detailed reviews – this is the 2nd wordpress app review I’ve read here.
