AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:
Features:
Word Mix is one of those classic Android word games that I’m pretty certain most word-game fans have at least tried. I know when I first got an Android device, this was one of my early gaming addictions. Since then, and since we originally reviewed Word Mix, it’s moved in leaps and bounds. Now bigger, better, smarter and featuring more options and bonuses, it remains by far one of the best word games available on the Android Market.
Word Mix is ultimately a very cool word game. The aim of the game is to try to match as many word combinations as you can from the 6 letters you are given. To progress to the next level you need to at least find the full 6 letter word. You can use Hints (gives you one letter placement for every word) or, if you earn them Super Hints (more than one letter etc), and now it also features other bonuses such as extended time. Use “Mix” to randomize the letters to possibly see more word combos and use “Guess” to submit a word. One of my favourite aspects of this game, albeit such a minor one, is the ‘Last’ tab. This lets you rack the last word you submitted. This saves oodles of time should you need to add an ‘S’ or other such letter to make a new word. It’s details like this that make the game so intuitive.
Do all this in a race against the timer in ‘Game’ mode or find every word in the un-timed ‘Puzzle’ mode, to score as many points as possible. At the end of the game most words offer the definition from the Merriam Webster online dictionary. It’s a pretty neat way to expand your vocabulary in this way too, as definitions are available simply by touching the word. Occasionally I did notice words seemingly missing. My main bugbear (and I should stress this is with all word games, not just Word Mix) is the word ‘Dane’, meaning a native of Denmark. This word is NEVER allowed, and scans of comments in the Android Market suggest that other words are curiously absent too. I don’t consider this to be too much of a biggie, but it’s frustrating when you have those letters.
We originally reviewed Word Mix back in January 2010 (2 years ago now!) and despite that time, Word Mix continues to feel fresh and interesting. It has grown and expanded, introduced new features and themes but remains challenging and fun. It’s a genuine Android Classic and, if somehow you’ve missed this gem of a title, it’s about time you gave it a look.

Fun Factor & Addictive:
The game is easily fun and addictive for those who like text twist challenges. It also has a strong anagram feel to the gameplay, so if you like those kind of games, this will suit you well. With the introduction of new bonuses; super hints, retries, extended time etc. and over 12000 English language levels, Word Mix is still lots of fun.
With the introduction of Openfeint scoring, the game feels more addictive than ever. You can now compete against friends online for the highest scores and unlock 12 different scoring achievements. Add to this the differing modes and bonus features, Word Mix is an ideal time-killer for the word game advocate.
Graphics:
The graphics are relatively simple, don’t expect hardcore 3D rendering engines. Word Mix has had quite a graphical makeover since our original review, things seem to looks sharper and more responsive. Graphics are rarely the main draw of a word game, but Word Mix still looks very good compared to some other games.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The game uses sounds for correct words and when the timer nears zero plus vibration for incorrect words.
