Wizz Widget – nice series of functional homescreen widgets you can theme Install

Wizz Widget is actually a series of great homescreen widgets that come with a slew of additional themes to download. With a large range of widgets available, it’s a cool solution for homescreen modders and people needing extra functionality. The app is really easy to use, supported on both phones and tablets and works on various launchers, including: ADW Launcher EX, Honeycomb, ICS and APEX Launcher.

Price: Free, or $1.99 via in-app purchase

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Large range of widgets available!
  • 11 different themes which can be downloaded for free in the Google Play Store!
  • Easy to set up and use!
  • Resizable!

Cons

  • Some content doesn’t show up on the widgets, for example Messaging (see below).
  • Didn’t seem to let me log into Google Reader.

Features:

Wizz Widget is a free set of useful homescreen widgets that look great and can be easily resized. These widgets include: Agenda, Agenda Month View, Agenda Stack, Calendar, Contact, Facebook, Facebook Stack, Google Reader, Google Reader Stack, Message, Timeline (Twitter and Facebook), Timeline Stack, Twitter and Twitter Stack. Apps, where required, are scrollable and look really polished.

Additionally these widgets are theme-able. Choose between: Blue Transparent, ICS, Plus, Cyan Transparent, Leather Stitch Blue, IO, Leather Green, Red Transparent, Orange Transparent, Green Transparent and Leather Stitch Pink. They can all be downloaded from the Google Play Store for free, so definitely try them out.

I often switch between Apex Launcher Pro and my native Sense 4.1 launcher. With Sense, you get loads of gorgeous widgets that just aren’t available when you use an alternative launcher. While I’m not sure those in Wizz Widget are quite as good, they certainly bridge that gap if you’re used to certain homescreen widgets. Plus, with the themes, you have a great set of widgets that should be able to fit in with any design.

The app does feature a couple of issues though. Sometimes content doesn’t show up. For example, when I tried to install a Message widget, my SMS messages didn’t show up. Additionally, while it includes a couple of Google Reader widgets, it didn’t seem to let me log into the service. Therefore, while I think Wizz Widget is a great little app, it still suffers from a few bugs that will need resolving.

Usefulness:

If you need some functional and handy widgets for your homescreen, Wizz Widget is a nice set to try out. Some of the functionality is limited unless you buy the full version of the app, but even the free version is pretty cool and worth trying out.

Ease of Use:

There is a neat little tutorial at the beginning but, if you’ve installed widgets before, you should know how to do so. With services like Twitter and Facebook you’ll have to log in but this is also very straightforward.

Frequently Used:

Homescreen widgets are basically there whenever you interact with your device, so it’s essentially an app you’ll use regularly.

Interface:

The interfaces on each widget are generally very responsive. For example, there’s a create new appointment on the Calendar apps which works great. There are various looks each widget can have if you add the assorted themes.

Should you Download Wizz Widget? Yes, definitely give it a try- especially if you value great-looking homescreen widgets. The widgets are very functional, can be themed to suit your homescreen design and can also be resized. The sheer volume of different widgets available is impressive and, although there are a couple of issues as described above, it’s certainly worth checking out. The app is free, but you can make an in app purchase of $1.99 for full functionality and to support the developer.
