Edward Kim has released another incredible application for Android users everywhere, No Root Screenshot It! The app allows you to take screenshots from any Android device with the small exception of devices running Android 3.0 or higher. This application allows you to take screenshots easily and quickly and is very simple to set up, with very few drawbacks. I will be writing a full review on it later, but here is a brief synopsis of how it works.

In order to get the application working on your phone there is a little bit of work required. You will need to download a application on to your home computer or laptop, hook up your phone to the computer with USB debugging on, and to follow the onscreen prompts for the computer aide application from Edward Kim and Lindy Labs. The application does not change any system files or gain temporary root access to your phone. The application does appear to write a temporary file to your phone which allows the application to take screenshots without root access.

No Root Screenshot It is a bit pricey coming in at $4.99 before tax, but for those of us who take screenshots frequently, *cough* Android App Reviewers *cough*, it is well worth the price. I have used it on both the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and the Sony Xperia Play and it worked perfectly.

The downside of this process is that it does need to be repeated every time you restart your phone. The upside is that if you do not restart your phone frequently you can easily take many screenshots and never know the difference from this application on a rooted device and a non-rooted device. I use normal Screenshot It on my rooted devices and was extremely happy to find that there was no difference between the user interface of No Root ScreenShot It and ScreenShot It other than the set up process.

This developer has produced some excellent stuff in the past and I am sure is working on a permanent solution to the phone restarting issue for future versions of this application. For those of us with phones which we either wish to keep unrooted for Google Movies or Hulu access, or who have devices on which root access cannot be attained like the Sony Xperia Play R800x; this is without a doubt the best and only screenshot application for Android. I can personally tell you that I am thrilled to only need to connect my phone to the computer once in order to take screenshots on my non-rooted devices; instead of having to connect them every time and use the Android SDK.
