Will Adobe Flash Disrupt the Mobile Ecosystem?

Flash on the web has been the dominate medium for rich media experiences; seen in video streaming sites like YouTube and Vimeo, interactive websites, online ads and thousands of online games. With the release of Adobe’s latest version of Flash, they plan to target most mobile platforms (excluding iPhone for the time being) using Adobe AIR. Adobe AIR has been traditionally known for delivering desktop applications, now with exportability to mobile phone platforms like Android and RIM Blackberry rumored as second.

One great benefit of this is for developers and consumers will be the ease of portability between various mobile platforms. Using a medium common to most all computers to deliver content will break some proprietary barriers. However this is a direct conflict with companies who run app store ecosystems.

Besides may excuses Apple eludes to (performance, battery drain and bugs) their strong hold on the App Store would be threatened by allowing Flash on iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Yes of course it will. The only thing flash should be used for is games. Beyond that pretty much all modern mobile OS browsers do or plan to support html 5. Flash slows down desktop CPUs. What do you think is going to happen to a hand held device?

I’m not a big fan of Flash either. It’s proprietary and on the desktop it slows things down. But, wether you like it or not…

Adoption of HTML 5 will be the future.
    Flash technology is now.

Until HTML 5 gets settled, i think Flash is a good thing, opening up more content on the web for mobile devices.

Wow,it’s good news to see for the mobile market and for Adobe. The Air platform rocks.Right now this is a great time to be a mobile developer with all the great options available.
