Wild Blood is an action-stuffed game of legend. You control Sir Lancelot in a land ravaged by evil magic and you must defeat hordes of monsters to progress through the game. It’s a premium title with a premium price tag, but developers Gameloft also give you opportunity to make additional in-app purchases. You should also be aware that you need about 2GB of free space on your Android device to play it.
Price: $6.99, plus In-app Purchases
Tested on: Nexus 4
Content Rating: Medium Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Stunning 3D graphics!
- Immersive sound!
- Epic gameplay!
- Challenging!
- Multiplayer mode!
- Easy to play!
Cons
- Camera angle is annoyingly unintuitive.
- At the price Gameloft charges I shouldn’t be forced into making additional in-app purchases.
Features:
Wild Blood is an excellent game if you like sword/sorcery/magic genre of action games. You play Sir Lancelot as he does battle with various monsters. There are a variety of these creatures from imp-style nasties to dragons and more. The highlight of the game is the impressive graphics and atmospheric gameplay as it offers a stunning 3D experience that is also incredibly immersive. Gameloft have the power to create genuinely mind-blowing games and Wild Blood is certainly one of them. If you like games big, bold, blood-thirsty and engaging, you’ll want to be all over this.
However, while it does what it says on the tin, especially for the high price, there are still a few things that might put you off. While the price you pay for downloading the Wild Blood is becoming more and more typical for top games, the fact that Gameloft then included an in-app store where you can make additional real-money purchases stings somewhat. You collect coins as you play the game but if you want serious equipment, you simply have no choice but to pay even more on the game. For me this is a slap in the face- if you buy a game- especially an expensive one like this, you have to expect a better return for your money.
Watch on Mobile
Another niggle which directly effects gameplay is the camera angles. You can look around using your finger and, while this is intuitive, the angle then does whatever it likes (usually giving you a much narrower view) after a few seconds. This means you constantly have to stop and look around. You do get used to it after a while, but it’s damn frustrating and hardly intuitive.
These issues meant for me that the game was brilliantly created but serious flawed. The graphics, sound, environment, enemies and weapons are all superb and rendered wonderfully but when you realise that to make any real impact you’re going to have to fork out more money on virtual equipment, it feels like a jab to the stomach. It reminds us yet again that big game companies aren’t ever in it for the art, rather the moolah. Simply put, despite the great game, it does feel like you’re being ripped off.

Fun Factor:
One extra nugget of joy the app does bring is the multi-player version. Simply create a Gameloft account and log in to fight against other online players (most of whom will destroy you almost immediate). With a little combat practice you do begin to make your own kills and it’s all good fun.
Overall the game is fun, just soured by the fact it is forever wanting you to make in-app purchases.
Addictive:
You need patience to let your character grow very slowly and play the same level over and over as you build resources, it might be something you find addictive- perhaps more certainly on a bright large screen tablet. That said, I’m not convinced the limited resources you begin with are anywhere near good enough to proceed through the game at a normal pace. Expect lots of defeats and set-backs before you get into it.
Graphics:
The graphics are sublime; crisp, detailed and smooth. The game has been built using the Unreal graphics engine so expect buttery smoothness and beautiful richness that is among the best examples of visual ability on the Android platform.
All of this, however, does cost you in available space. At a whopping 2 gigabytes you might need to make room for it before you download the game. If the previous issues begin to grate on you, it may feel like a lot to carry around on your device for limited initial reward.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is spectacular, as good as you would find on any high-end console game. It adds significant depth to gameplay and is very immersive.
