Wikitude extended its augmented reality browser platform to turn-by-turn GPS navigation with Wikitude Drive. It’s the first ever AR satellite navigation system with global coverage. Driving directions not only appear on screen, they are overlaid on the live video stream of the very street you are driving on. As a result, you are seeing the real world and real road in front of you, while being directed by a digital route on top of it.

They are offering the app for beta testers in the Android Market right now for the first 2,000 downloads so hurry up and get it. We’ve included the QR code above so you can scan and download it. We’re evaluating it now, tell us what you think in the comments!

  1. Love the idea of this app, grabbed it from the marketplace and fired it up -very cool! However, it crashed after 15′ literally! and I didn’t get a chance to try it again until a few minutes ago – it now tells me it needs to update itself but it launches the market and does nothing more! Bummer

    Grr..That went Fast

  3. dave says:

I downloaded it and fired it up. first thing it does it tell you there is a newer version and you need to update. It send you to the market and it isn’t there so it dumps you out. If you say no thanks to the update it also dumps you out.

Now I’m not satisfied with how they handled the beta. Your example is the exact reason why. They should have released the beta on their website, that way we can get updates.

  4. Tom says:

I had the same experience as Dave, except that I got a choice of using a browser to update instead of the Market. The result was “404 Not Found”.

i think that you need froyo for run the last version of wikitude drive

  6. Android22 says:

There was a server problem with this huge amount of beta testers comming from rapidshare…

Now the server is up and running again…

  7. nz047 says:

Its not in Market anymore.. can we download it from somewhere else? or anyone has apk that they are willing to share?
i want to try it. looks awesome!

  8. it is “working” for me again. By working I mean that it will launch and start to create a route, just about the second it finishes it crashes though. Once again I love the idea and look forward to more apps/options like this.
