AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Awesome location based app; find businesses and places near you plus more
  • Write reviews with WHEREreviews new feature

Cons

  • No user interface brand recognition uniformity within the app

Features:

WHERE Android App bundles many of the location based app capabilities all in one place… and for FREE! Find gas prices, Yellow Pages information, news headlines, movie show times, ZipCar finder, traffic and offers.

WHERE Android App does bring a hint of social networking to the platform via the “Where Wall”, a form of message board to post comments in general or tied to specific features; such as commenting on a particular News Headline.

Since our initial review of WHERE Android App, there has been some additions and improvements to the app. Even some experimental like Weather Pulse, which is there link to social buzz aggregating what other people around the web are saying or tweeting about regarding weather near you. As I note it is experimental as the responses were not necessarily related to my location, but you can get the idea in this screenshot.

Usefulness:

WHERE Android app is very useful for most mobile outing information gathering. What makes it most useful is that many capabilities are in a centralized place and populate at your request based on your current or user specified location.

Ease of Use:

WHERE Android app is simple and easy to use. Tapp a component and the locations with access to detailed information is presented to you versus you going to get it.

Frequently Used:

Depending on your personal needs, it could proof to be used often or on an as needed basis.

Interface:

The user interface is rather all over the place… meaning there is no brand recognition uniformity within the app. At every section there is a different look and feel. More like a mashup of several apps, however we know now  more focus is placed on functionality over design (read more in our interview with VP of Tech of WHERE).

I really like Where and recently found it useful while stranded in California waiting for it to stop snowing. Found a place to eat and checked the weather. It is a nice quick, easy to use app. I am waiting for all the extra features to be available

This is a great app!!! Imagine Gasbot, one of the weather apps, the YellowBook app, Movie Finder, and Handstand (for news) all wrapped up in one. Sometimes I find myself using just this particularly if I’m looking for a restaurant and need gas at the same time.

  3. asanisimasa says:

Looks awesome, gets rid of my need for some other apps, plus Yelp and Zipcar, which is great.

  4. gardenwife says:

I use Where several times a week and find it really handy. The only gripe I have is the Topix newsfeeds; when I go to view the full story from within Where, a window opens with the index page of the paper’s webiste, not the story. It ought to open to the story’s URL, not the paper’s main URL.

  5. kevin says:

I downloaded it yesterday and, think it’s a very good app. Though, some of the things on there is irrevelant for me, I like the fact one can have a lot of things in front of you at once. I would recommend checking it out also. You can’t beat the price.

  6. elaine says:

doesn’t work. won’t find my location so i entered manually. then i tried to use yelp to check restaurants and it went to la-la land and wouldn’t come back.

i see uninstall in the future.

  7. Neal says:

Hey, is there anyway to add my home address to Where so I can “check in” when I get home?
    LOVE WHERE!!!!

  8. oldsmobubble says:

I am new to the whole Android phone and market and I am using the Samsung Moment (which I love so far) and I just downloaded the “where” app and I set my GPS to be the default for when I want to get to say a gas station and it doesn’t seem to be working properly, how do i change it?

  9. Allan says:

I can’t find it anywhere in the market place. I enter “Where” in the search box and it does not show. I even went to the andriodtapp.com website on my HTC EVO and an icon shows that say “Download for Droid” but it doesn’t work. Any suggestions???

    • Danny says:

The developer may not have it viewable to certain phones/carriers from what I’ve heard.

I know it doesn’t show up on the Nexus One AT&T brand cause, and don’t quote me as truth, they have a contract with AT&T for monthly service. So it’s blocked out as being seen, atleast that’s what I’ve gathered cause it doesn’t show up for me either.
