What’s New in HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update

Unfortunately the update did not release on May 7th as anticipated, but did May 11th.

Sprint reportedly plans to release an Android 2.1 upgrade to the HTC Hero May 7th. We’ve listed what’s new in android 2.1 when Verizon finally released the update for the Motorola DROID recently. Over-the-Air (OTA) updates like the one planned are typically done in waves over the span of a few weeks.

For HTC Hero owners this release will include a lot coming from Android version 1.5 to 2.1, see the list below:

Gesture Input (Android 1.6)
Support for different screen sizes (Android 1.6)

Speech-to-Text in any text field on default Android keyboard (Android 2.1)
Cool 3D Photo Gallery (Android 2.1)

I have the leaked Sprint 2.1 Rom from a few weeks ago and there is no Live Wallpapers option or News and Weather Widget. Hopefully it’s in the final ROM and hopefully we have a real date for Friday.
