Features:
Web TV for Android is an application to view web based television stations derived from YouTube and other video streaming sources. Web TV for Android features Cartoons, Entertainment, Music, Movie Classics, Sports, Educational, and News.
Web TV for Android is essentially a bookmark application for Android. What this means is that when you run the Web TV application all it does is load up the website “http://www.webtvforandroid.com”. The website is the real core of the application and can be accessed independently from the application in the Android Market.
The application is designed to be an easy access bookmark to the web page and to give the web page a higher volume of traffic from Android users. Initially this interface turned me off completely from the application, but after delving further in to its content I did find some redeeming value.
The website splits up the available “TV channels” in to categories. These categories are: Cartoons, Entertainment, Music, Movies, Sports, Educational, and News. After choosing a category of television the application will load up a channel list providing content for the category chosen.
The first heading I tried was Cartoons. Under cartoons they had Road Runner, Tom & Jerry, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Looney Tunes, etc. Each of these channels constantly streamed video from various sources like YouTube all day long using Flash. Most of the videos that I viewed while testing were of a better than average quality under the cartoon heading, although the Looney Tunes station did play the show for me in Spanish a few times during testing. Overall I was pleased with the cartoon streaming and that alone brings some value to this website so it can entertain children while their parents are working or are on a long car drive.
Movies lended somewhat similar results to cartoons. The website would stream movie classics via Flash continuously and of a decent quality. However, I found that with many of the channels not under the cartoon heading the video was unable to go full screen through the native browser with flash. Instead you would have to use a browser like Skyfire to format the content independently from the Flash plug-in. The majority of the movies here were black and white and although they are classics for a reason, due to the age will not appeal to most younger audiences.
As I tested out many of the other channels I noticed that a large majority of them came from the provider Livestream. After browsing to Livestream’s website I was able to fully understand the origin of Web TV for Android. Web TV streams channels from Livestream that would ordinarily not be available on mobile devices. This is one of the reasons I was unable to enlarge most videos to full screen and why most channels were provided by Livestream.

Usefulness:
Web TV for Android is useful for letting your kids watch cartoons and entertaining them while on a car ride. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and speed of the cartoon streaming. Web TV is also useful for streaming certain Livestream channels that are normally unavailable on Android devices.
Unfortunately, many of the channels do not support being played in full screen unless you are using Skyfire. There is also a very limited amount of content and most of it is severely aged.
Furthermore, the application is not needed to access any of the content. Instead it just acts as a bookmark to the Web TV for Android website. Bookmarking this site is just as useful as the application.
Ease of Use:
Web TV for Android is easy to use. Clicking on the application launches the website. All of the content is easy to access, though the web page is plagued with advertisements that are easy to hit by accident. Other than the advertisements I had no major issues using the website
Frequently Used:
I would use this application for cartoon streaming and cartoon streaming only. This is due to the repeated issues I had in getting other channels to go full screen and the lack of current content. However, the cartoon streaming could be an excellent way to entertain yourself on a lunch break!
Interface:
The interface for Web TV for Android is a website not an application. The developer should take a lesson from TV Show Stream, which is another web based application Google removed from the Android Market, and redesign the application to provide all the necessary links to the videos with thumbnails. Through an actual application the developer could also force all of the videos to play in full screen like with TV Show Stream.
