Weather Neue is the ultimate minimalist weather application. Relying on simple elegance and a little more, the app is also far less data and battery hungry than other weather applications. If you need something really low maintenance, but still want something that actually looks pretty good, look no further than Weather Neue.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Nice yet simple user interface to show the weather!
- Low data and battery consumption!
- Nice animations!
- Themes!
Cons
- No widget.
- Does’t support multiple locations.
Features:
While we really love our weather apps here at AndroidTapp, Weather Neue is a little different. It doesn’t have gorgeously resplendent animations when you open it up. It doesn’t come with a long series of widgets or even a clock. It doesn’t support multiple locations so you won’t be able to check up on weather anywhere else. There are a few themes, but if you’re expecting anything like BeWeather or Beautiful Widgets you’d be very disappointed. You can’t see what the chance of rain next week might be and it doesn’t give you information about how full the moon will be that night either.
Instead, Weather Neue keeps things minimal. It features an elegant design with a nicely subtle opening animation. It presents the weather in a simple format and gives you a neat 4 day forecast. You can choose between 4 themes: Scorched (orange), Cloudy (white), Twilight (blue/purple) and Old LCD (off white/yellow). You can select between Imperial and Metric units (that’s Fahrenheit or Celsius)… but that’s about it!
However, if you’re wondering why would you use this when there are apps that are better looking, more functional and boasting more features, stop for a moment and think about all the battery those lush animations take up. Consider too, how much data is eaten up when you get those regular updates about precipitation chances in all your selected locations. Those apps look great and deliver oodles of useful info, but how much do you really need it?
Weather Neue is the app to have if you want to preserve battery and save data usage. The app still looks pretty good and despite being free isn’t riddled with intrusive advertising. It simply tells you the weather and gives you a little forecast. I would argue it might be a little bit too minimalist- the inclusion of a widget would make it a far more attractive option- but it’s elegant, useful and low maintenance. You sacrifice all the bells and whistles of other applications, but it still does a great job.

Usefulness:
For telling you the weather now and over the next few days, it works as well as any other application. It does reign back on the range of information you can get to the bare essentials, so there’s no extensive analysis or lush animations. If the app had a widget it could be improved further but as it is, it works well and is a handy stand-alone weather app in its own right.
Ease of Use:
Just open the app and check out the weather. You can select the menu (small arrow beside the location at the top) which presents a small settings dashboard with theme and metric toggle. Couldn’t be easier.
Frequently Used:
As with all weather apps, it probably depends on the user how often the app is opened. Because it lacks the widget, it might be used less than other weather applications.
Interface:
The interface is simple yet elegant and includes nice opening animations that are pretty but very basic. The app is all about ease of use and is therefore sharp, clean and uncomplicated.
