Weather Flow – make your Android look awesome with this Weather app!
Jul 11, 2012 8:44 AM –
Weather Flow is a dedicated weather app for your Android device. Featuring a gorgeous ICS-inspired design and combining great visuals and customisation options with lots of handy information and forecasts, it has a growing army of fans on the Google Play Store and I am one of them. Let me explain why…
Tested on: HTC One X
Pros & Cons:
- Beautiful design!
- Great range of customisation options!
- Loads of useful weather information, including daily and hourly forecasts!
Maybe we are little obsessed with weather apps here at AndroidTapp. 😀 We’ve certainly managed to review lots of them. From the highly detailed eWeather HD to the gorgeous BeWeather and 1Weather (which was my personal favourite for some time), we even managed to have a showdown between these last two apps. Weather is in our vanes (veins- geddit?). So… here’s another one.
Weather Flow is now my app of choice for a host of reasons. Firstly, it is based on those Ice Cream Sandwich design principals that Google have blogged about quite a lot recently so it looks great as part of an ICS ROM or anyone culturing an ICS theme on their device. Therefore, it looks really professional and polished. The app features some really smooth animations too, both in the colourful ‘Rich’ mode or detailed ‘Typographic’ mode.
There is a nice range of customisations available in the app including: units, typographic or rich theme (see pics below for examples), light and dark theme, theme colour, time format, refresh rate and loads of languages. These all give quite a collection of different looks you can achieve with the app, making it more personalised to you. One thing that is missing is the choice of weather sources. While I didn’t find this a problem, I do know some people are very particular in their preferences, whether that be Google Weather, AccuWeather or something else.
You get an hourly forecast in addition to a five-day forecast and a slew of additional weather stats which include: precipitation, pressure, wind gust, visibility, sunrise, sunset, day length and UV index. Now, there’s certainly more detailed apps out there, even with all this information, but I love the way the info is presented and it more than caters to my own requirements.
The app comes with a little forecast widget which looks pretty cool and again works well with ICS. You can choose between a 4×1 Smoked Glass, Dark or Light themed widget but that is the limit of the options. Often with these apps you might get the choice of sizes or whether to include a clock feature. Sadly this isn’t the case with Weather Flow so that might put off users who want a little more dynamism in their widgets.
These things aside, I really like the way the app looks and feels blending great design with some visual flourishes that make it look utterly superb. Add to this the nice range of information and you have yourself the (almost) prefect little weather app for your mobile device.

For knowing what the weather is, knowing whether to take a raincoat, an umbrella or to pack a snow shovel, Weather Flow, like most weather apps, is very useful for knowing what Mother Nature is going to throw at you. A little widget can tell you from your homescreen, but then full app is has plenty of detailed info to keep you informed. It might be improved if it included weather warning notifications etc., but this aside, I felt it does its job really well.
Ease of Use:
You only really need to create a few settings; location, metric or imperial units, theme etc., and then you’re all set. Weather and info is laid out clearly and concisely, meaning you can get a good grasp of what’s happening in just a few seconds.
Personally I use weather apps on a daily basis. I guess that if you’re reading this, you might too.
The interface is beautiful and very well designed. Inspired by the ICS guidelines from Google, the app looks sublime on Android 4.0+ and compliments any polished and sharp looking Android device. You get lots of theme choices too, so you can customise it in a variety of ways.
