Vonage Mobile app simplifies Free Talking & Texting, offers lower International calling rates

Vonage launched a free app, Vonage Mobile, that allows you to talk and text other Vonage users for free on Android, iOS devices over 4G, 3G, or Wi-Fi. The Android calling app uses your data plan only and does not tap into your minutes or text messages.

In comparison to Skype, the user experience is much easier. Whereas, it integrates with your existing contacts versus Skype’s method, which maintains a separate address book, and eliminates the need for signing up as it uses your existing phone number; while you don’t have to be an existing Vonage customer. Vonage Mobile chips away at Skype again, as multiple invites are as easy as selecting friends from your contacts list while Skype’s process involves searching their entire user database, and has to be repeated for each contact. And if that wasn’t competition gut-shot enough, Vonage allows you to purchase credits for long distance calls right from within the app charging to your Android Market or iTunes account while Skype forces you to go online using their website.

Calls to any phone in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico from anywhere in the world will be FREE for a limited time. If you call an international number of a person not using the mobile app, they offer calling rates “on average 70% less than major mobile carriers and 30% less than Skype’s.” according to the company.
