Features:
Vogelstein 2D is a two dimensional homage to the PC classic Wolfenstien 3D. In Vogelstein 2D you are a resistance leader in Nazi occupied territory fighting for your life to collect Nazi treasures through each level. This game feels very much like the original Wolfenstein and features similar artwork, level design, weapons, and secrets. It also features three levels of difficulty and ten playable levels.
Vogelstein 2D places you in the shoes of a local resistance leader J.A. You were captured with other members of the resistance group and thrown in to a Nazi holding cell. However, as they threw you in to your holding cell you were able to incapacitate the guard who was responsible for you and steal his Luger and escape.
Despite the two dimensional form of this game it is similar to the original Wolfenstein 3D. With the respect of levels use the same color schemes as the original Wolfenstein with gold eagles adorning the walls, Nazi symbols everywhere, and the same simplistic colors with rich blues and reds. You progress from one narrow hallway to another and always encounter large groups of Nazis when leaving the corridors to enter in to large areas.
Also like in the original there are secret areas hidden throughout each level. In these secrets you will find gold for bonus points, vials to restore your health, and ammunition for each of your weapons. In order to achieve a perfect score for each level you will need to locate all of the secret rooms for each level. The difficulty levels seemed reasonable with Easy mode being a relatively easy starter option and each successive level of difficulty progressing in proper increments.
The controls of the game are extremely simple. You are given a virtual thumb stick, a on-screen fire button, and a list of selectable weapons at the bottom of the screen. The thumb stick controls worked splendidly, and I was very satisfied to find that the thumb stick had a large radius like in Gun Bros or Dungeon Defenders. The fire button would shoot whatever weapon was currently equipped and when you were close to an enemy would switch to a melee attack.

Vogelstein 2D Story
Fun Factor:
At first I was a little wary of Vogelstein 2D because of the difference between a two dimensional Wolfenstein clone and the original game set in a three dimensional environment. After playing through the game a bit I began to really enjoy it. The game made me nostalgic to play the original again, and the artwork and color schemes stolen from the original only enhanced that effect.
Unfortunately there is only ten levels to play through in Vogelstein’s current version. However, if you enjoyed playing the original Wolfenstein and you give this game a chance you will end up loving it almost as much as the original.
Addictive:
Vogelstein 2D is actually pretty addictive once you get going. One thing I think that contributes greatly to the game’s addictive factor is the fact that they retained a similar secret room mechanics as the original Wolfenstein. Having hidden rooms in each level encourages the player to play through each level multiple times in order to discover all of the hidden secrets.
Graphics:
The graphics of Vogelstein 2D are quirky in a good way. The characters are drawn with very unique models which enhance the feeling that this game is an homage to the original. All of the artwork in the game is designed to mirror what you would have encountered in the PC game and bring back fond memories of the original. Although the two dimensional game does require a little bit of adjusting to, in the end you will fall in love with it.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Vogelstein 2D makes no use of either the phone’s accelerometer or its haptic feedback. There are sound effects in the game which mirror the original Wolfenstein such as door opening, secret door movement, and guns firing. However there is no musical soundtrack and this does detract a bit from the gameplay. Hopefully music will be added in future versions of the game.
