Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Dating app for mobile that helps filter searches for you!
- Good video & audio quality even over cellular; on par with other video calling apps!
- Privacy in mind, simple request/accept/decline/block system plus it doesn’t require phone numbers or share email addresses!
- See who’s peeked at your profile!
- Works cross-platform; Android & iOS!
- Just may help you find a date!
Cons
- User interface and experience a bit clunky, could use a little more polish.
- This may be a pro for some, however, you cannot receive message alerts unless you have the app open.
Features:
Video Date is a dating app for your mobile device- available on Android, iPhone or iPad. You can either sign up via the app or use your Facebook account; the latter allows for sharing your FB pics if you desire, or share from your phone’s gallery or take a new one to share. Based on your profile preferences the app tries to match you with that special someone automatically when you tap the “Find a Date” button. The search results are listed by Newest, Age or Distance. If these aren’t enough it has a detailed set filters to search a compatible mate; such as narrowing down build, ethnicity, distance, orientation, status, online now or list only those with profile photos.
Once you find someone you want to connect with you have a few options; either send them a text message or “Request” a video date. I like that, for security and privacy reasons, both parties have to accept each others request in order to video call or send pictures (some dudes may not like this feature.) Further security features allow you to decline, block or report a user. Video Date has a sought after feature that Facebook lacks, the ability to see who’s peeked at your profile (hope you haven’t fell for those spam hacks on FB.)
Although I didn’t find a date, I wasn’t necessarily surfing for one. I tested using separate devices to simulate the experience, and I must say that you should expect the typical online dating dilemma; guys clamoring over gals. For example, I created a test female account that stated for testing purposes and without a profile pic and got two video date requests in ten minutes of creation.
Once you are able to connect with someone, the video and audio quality are good even over a cellular connection! On par with other video calling apps like Tango or Skype. From that interface you can tap the screen to toggle either front/rear cameras, mute the conversation or hang-up the video call.
There are only a few caveats with the app that include the overall clunkiness of the UI and user experience which can be cleaned up in an update or two. You do not receive notifications unless you actually open the app. Plus there’s not many users at the time of review, however, this mobile dating network is one to watch and could possibly balloon to millions of users.

Usefulness:
This is a personal preference option, however, if you’re truly seeking a date, a friend, or just an interested some- it can fulfill those needs.
Ease of Use:
Overall the app is easy to use. I personally felt the “Request” video date button could be more prominent on the profile page rather than the bottom of the screen. It remembers your search preferences which is convenient plus you can easily drill down more if needed.
Frequently Used:
This is also a personal preference as it could be an occasional hobby and spawn into a service as addictive as Facebook for your needs.
Interface:
This is where the app could use some work as outlined above.
