AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Awesome alternative way to send Tweets by Voice
  • Good for hands-free tweeting

Cons

  • Bound by the accuracy of Google’s Speech-to-Text engine
  • Only for Android 2.1+ phones
  • No tweet character counter
  • Some may argue the point of Twitter is to discreetly send messages without everyone hearing them

Features:

Twitoc Android App is a cool way to speak your tweets! It is a home screen widget plus app; simply open it, say what you want to tweet and send. (I really wish Nuance’s text-to-speech engine was built in, however it’s not yet vailable). It displays what it thinks it heard so you can verify accuracy before tweeting. Tip: we’ve noticed if you hold the phone to your ear as a normal conversation and speak clearly, you’ll get the best results.

Gripe Alert: unfortunately this awesome idea has a crutch with Google’s server-based Speech-to-Text engine powering the app. In my personal experience the accuracy of the engine is about 97-99% accurate. Plus tweeting is all about the shortest abbreviated text as possible; which makes saying “Retweet” and it not recognizing it yet typing out “RT” not possible. It is also missing a character counter so you know if you’ve tipped the 140 character limit, plus it would be nice to have some list of recent tweets.

Usefulness:

The app is more cool idea and offers an alternative solution to tweeting.

Ease of Use:

Twitoc is a 4×1 home screen widget or you can open it directly. Once it’s open it will start listening for your tweet. Speak, verify and send. That’s all!

Android Advice™: How do I place the widget on my home screen?

Once installed go to home screen where there is free space for 1×1 or 4×1 (equivalent to 4 app icons across) » Longpress (hold for 2 or more seconds) an empty area » choose Widgets » select app from the list.

Interface:

The app presents native Android 2.1+ Speech-to-Text engine followed by a simple text field where your tweet can be reviewed/edited then sent.
