TweetDeck Install

TweetDeck is your mobile browser for staying in touch with what’s happening on Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Buzz. TweetDeck makes it easy to view all of your data and post updates to multiple accounts, so you can stay up to date and organized no matter where you are.

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Twitter (fully featured integration), Facebook, Foursquare (near full feature integration) and Google Buzz in one app
  • Configure notification type and update intervals
  • Sign in with TweetDeck account and get instant access to all identities created from the desktop app. Convenient! 8)
  • See tweets and check-ins in your vicinity on Google Maps

Cons

  • Confusing and complicated user experience, the app still needs work with making the features and configuration easy to use

Features:

TweetDeck for Android is social media client that allows you to connect to and manage multiple Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz, and Foursquare accounts with one app similar to the popular desktop client. This production ready version is now better than the beta release… I guess that’s why you slap a “beta” tag on it huh.

If you’re familiar with TweetDeck’s desktop app then you’re familiar with their “Columns” with are various social streams you can see all at once. For the mobile app each column is isolated and you easily switch columns by swiping left or right. The Home column aggregates all streams, Me column pulls all replies and comments your friends and followers directed at you, just as well as Direct column pulls in direct replies to you, and you can specify your own columns.

I’m happy TweetDeck comes with a settings feature for each column, so you have the liberty to configure how you would like to be notified about updates. You can set notify, whether your phone’s light blinks, sound & vibrate notifications, as well as update intervals. Be sure to take some time to configure each column as the default setting checks your social networks every 3 or 15 minutes and if you have a lot of updates this can quickly kill your battery.

Do note it’s doesn’t have full features of Facebook such as accepting or requesting friends and uploading photos as it’s not meant for that. It is meant for sending and receiving status messages on these networks, and does function as a full mobile Twitter client. Therefore you can Tweet, Reply, Direct Message, Follow/Unfollow, Retweet, Lists, Search, and Geo-location enhanced to show all tweets and check-ins in your vicinity. The Foursquare integration is weird in that you can check-in but only to places your friends have checked into? :???: You can however Shout, write Tips and see places on Google Maps.

Usefulness:

TweetDeck is very popular because of how convenient it makes keeping up with many social networks as well as replying to them from one app versus firing up multiple apps.

Ease of Use & Interface:

What would help the user interface is clear color coding, header titles, as well as familiar branding or icons for Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Buzz columns. :(  TweetDeck for Android is not the most intuitive social app… quite convoluted to be honest, but there’s an adjustment in using the app so hopefully we can ease some first-time configuration in this review.

Android Advice™ – TweetDeck Ninja Tips:

  • The thing to remember about TweetDeck is the columns, for each column be sure to glance at the top header to note which column you’re in as there is no huge difference visually in the columns besides some color differences.
  • Tap the header bar to quickly zoom to the latest message.
  • Send one message to all social networks when composing a message by tapping their icons in the post screen.
  • Comment directly to Facebook friends or Like their status from “All Friends” menu when tapping the Friends icon.
  • Instead of signing into each account individually, if you sign in with your TweetDeck account you get instant access to all identities created from the desktop app.

Should you Download TweetDeck for Android? If you’re an advanced user and can adjust to how to use the app I would say Yes! If you’re a total newbie, I’d recommend using separate apps for your social networks.

deckondroid has made twitter and facebook fun again. Since the beta came out i have gone from ~2 postings a week to several each day and I am more likely to check in on the facebook posts of my contacts. The clean looks and ease of use across multiple platforms really makes this king. Add on top the excellent List handling and I’m a fanboy.
