Pros

One of the best streaming Internet radio apps for Android
Very good audio quality even over 3G cellular connection
Of course it can stream in the background… it’s on Android

Cons

Unlike the iOS version you cannot record and playback live radio
In podcasts you cannot seek only stream

Features:

TuneIn Radio is one of the best streaming Internet radio app available. Stream stations local or from around the world. Streams show quality levels, in my case I had very good quality over 3G. While listening to stations you can favorite them by placing them in the Playlist, set alarms and sleep timers. TuneIn Radio supports listening to podcasts found within the app (you cannot load your own podcast address though). A little known fact is that you can even get police and fire scanners within the app for those hobbyists.

Gripe alert: I was really looking forward to the record live radio feature, unlike the iOS version you cannot record and playback live radio; but this is a free app so maybe we’ll see it in a future update. When listening to podcasts it would be nice to be able to seek position versus being forced to listen to the entire podcast in the case you lose your position.

Usefulness:

TuneIn Radio is great for commuters, those who enjoy talk & sport radio, folks who seek variety in radio & music geography or those who like to stream their favorite podcasts.

Ease of Use & Interface:

The user interface is simple and straightforward; search or browse through radio station listings. Navigation takes on an iOS style of breadcrumbs along the top making it easy to get back from anywhere.

The update to TuneIn that allows recording was supposed to be released last month, but there have been delays. Not sure when it’s coming, but hopefully licensing issues won’t prevent this feature on Android. And I wish all Net radio stations would stream artist & track names so I know who I’m listening to!

my evo shift keeps buffering which drives me nuts trying to listen to a station….dont know if it is tune in or evo software??

Im able to record live but it only captures about 17 minutes then nothing more. Very frustrating. So far no response from support. Appreciate any help.

I purchased TuneIn Radio Pro on 1/22/12 for my Nook Tablet, and get
almost nothing that isn’t either buffered or “error” messaged or long buffered/interrupted music which suddenly quits playing. I phoned B and N
tech support and they checked my wireless/web connection and found zero
problems there. Recommended that I write directly to the TuneIn Radio Pro
website. WTF is wrong with this app? I really would like to be able to
access it–and finish listening to a given recording.

I wanted to download this app to my android dongle. Just got the message that it’s not compatible with the dongle unit. For me Tunein is the most important app
