TrailHit with Papaya is a glorious adventure game where you are the hero! It’s a location based treasure hunting game where you need to search your neighbourhood for virtual boxes. Inside these boxes contain elements of ancient scrolls. These scrolls reveal clues to find an incredible device that will save the world. Similar to games like Parallel Kingdom and SpecTrek, TrailHit is a great outdoor fantasy game for both adults and kids.

Features:
The story behind TrailHit is quite a complex conspiracy theory that you can read on the app’s Google Play Store page. In a nutshell you have to find an ancient device that will ultimately save the world. There is a ‘trail’ to this device that can be followed by completing various scrolls. Your role as potential hero is to locate treasure boxes in and around your neighbourhood. Each box contains a piece of scroll or other items to help your quest. TrailHit then gets you outside and finding these boxes via your GPS. Boxes appear in the map and, initially, you need to be within 20 meters to open them- although this expands the more boxes you collect.
There is in-app currency involving crystals and coins and these can be collected and used to buy various items in the TrailHit marketplace. You might need to watch the market over a number of days to find the pieces you might need to complete a set, and if you run out of credits you will have to exchange your Papaya Mobile papayas which can be purchased via the network.
The dashboard of the game contains a load of options. There are pretty substantial tutorials that you really need to keep up with to properly understand what’s going on. These are delivered by a ‘Yodane’ who looks somewhat like a tall Yoda with a beard, and he pops up from time to time to guide you around. The available menu options include: Trails (where you go and find the boxes), Scrollbook (where the pieces of scroll are assembled), Wheel of scrolls (where your completed scrolls are assembled), Trail market (lets you buy pieces of scroll directly and exchange clone pieces), Shadowy Trails (indoor mode), Mystery (you have to unlock this yourself!), Merchant (exchange crystals for items to help with your search) and Papaya (takes you to the Papaya Mobile interface to invite friends, buy papayas and check out achievements).
There is a quite a lot to get your head around but the main gist is to get outside and find those boxes! It’s pretty good to play games outside and great for kids to enjoy too. With spring pretty much here and summer well and truly on its way, TrailHit could be a brilliant summer project! It’s not much different to games like SpekTrek and Parallel Kingdom and if you enjoy Geocaching this is a cute alternative that kids might engage with.

Fun Factor:
Searching and finding boxes is loads of fun, especially if the sun is shining and the game doesn’t initially put boxes in places like nearby school playgrounds (you can get around this by the way). Gradually revealing the mysteries of the game are exciting and, if you like to get out and about, this is an ideal way to use your Android device in the real world.
I enjoy geocaching and this is a nice diversion from that. It has an involving plot and interesting storyline so it’s also perfect for fans of fantasy games and fiction.
Addictive:
Once you get started it’s very engaging and fun. This might be tapered later in the game where pieces become elusive and hard to get hold of- perhaps prompting you more and more to use real money to buy the items you need outright, but it’s the kind of game you might easily begin to look for opportunities to play.
Graphics:
The graphics are a little disappointing, but the main interface while playing the game is the map view so it’s much like using Google Maps. The menus are OK, but you will have seen much slicker and more polished. The plus to these graphics is that the game should work on pretty much any device, so you won’t need a superphone to play the game.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The in-game music is really cool actually. It might not be something you have playing all the time but it’s pretty funky by all accounts.
