Features:
The ability to watch TV on your phone or tablet is a pretty cool thing. While there’s no beating a large wide screen TV, if you want to catch up with certain programs while you’re away from the comfort of your sofa, this may be very useful. There are a few apps that allow you to do this, but if you have kids, this might be worth a look. Toon Goggles showcases loads of free cartoons and then lots of additional content that can be accessed with a subscription. The service is available either via the web or a mobile app.
The apps homescreen looks like a simplified Google Play Store with scrolling banner of titles at the top and listed content beneath. At the bottom of the screen there are tabs for Home, Shows, My TG (log in), Search and More (which includes About section, FAQs, etc). It’s simple to navigate and this is ideal considering it is meant to be used by kids. All the content is apparently heavily vetted for suitability so parents can be assured the cartoons are appropriate for their young audience.
The cartoons themselves are very good quality, but they are not particularly well-known. In fact, even though I have kids, I have never heard of any of the titles in the app. This isn’t to say they aren’t good, but I’m not sure if kids will be familiar with them on normal TV channels. There are lots of different episodes for free, but then there is premium content which you have to subscribe to. This subscription also lets you save content offline to watch on the go or away from a strong data connection. While I’m not wholly convinced by this model- especially as it is both aimed at children and relatively expensive ($4.99 per month, so nearly $60 per year… on cartoons), the service itself seems top draw and very polished.

Usefulness:
For keeping children occupied, it’s a very useful application. It offers both educational as well as more entertaining titles.
Ease of Use:
The app is designed with children in mind so it is terrifically simple to use. One thing that bothered me slightly, however, was that the skip to next episode button is essentially a play arrow, so I sometimes skipped when I just wanted the cartoon to continue.
Frequently Used:
This probably depends on yourself and your child- whether they perhaps have their own tablet or whether they use yours. It might be great for using while travelling- although downloading for offline use requires a subscription.
Interface:
The interface is very simple and child-friendly. The menus can be scrolled through and, on a reasonable Wi-Fi signal, very quick to load and play. I did notice that occasionally the image distorts- especially when transferring from portrait to landscape mode so it might be worth while sticking to one or the other while you use it.
