AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Visually stunning graphics!
  • A wide variety of puzzles to solve and hidden objects to find!
  • An interesting story line told completely without text!

Cons

  • I had a lot of trouble first downloading the game, then getting it to start. Requires diligence to stick with it to get it working.
  • There is a pretty substantial download required after you purchase the game.

Features:

If you are a fan of Big Fish Games and their mix of hidden object and puzzle games, then you’re going to absolutely love Tiny Bang Story. In the vein of those other games, you have a wide range of puzzle types to solve, from finding objects hidden in the world, to puzzles that require you to think to work out the solution.

The story line, which is told without any text or dialogue, is of a world that was hit by an asteroid soccer ball, scattering the pieces. Your job is to find them all and reconstruct the world. To do that, you move through several levels, where you find puzzle pieces, and find areas that require something – most of the puzzles require that you first find the parts throughout the world. Once you have them all, then you can go about solving the puzzle itself. There are no “skip” buttons, and the hints will give you an idea of what needs to be done, but they don’t give anything away. Some of them left me really having to play around to figure out how to solve them.

The graphics of this game are simply stunning. It is well-drawn and visually rich, which makes it even nicer to not have it cluttered up with a bunch of text or dialogue. There are no penalties for touching repeatedly, and in fact that’s how you find the puzzles, by tapping on pretty much everything, looking for areas that bring up the puzzle dialogue or the pop-up box that you need to find pieces to solve the puzzle.

When it worked, this is a game that is easy to get involved in and play until you suddenly realize it’s over, you’ve solved everything, and you’re a bit sad about it. The catch – when it’s working. I had a lot of problems downloading the game to begin with (and it seems plenty of other people have as well), getting error messages in the Play store that the package was invalid. Once that was fixed, I was able to install it, which then required a very large download of assets (which makes sense given how visually rich the game is).  Once you get past that, you can start playing – but the problem I had at that point was a lot of force closing. It would take me sometimes 3-4 tries to get past the loading screen and into the game, although once I made it that far, I only had it force close out on me twice through the entire game. I hope that Herocraft releases more levels for this game and fixes those pretty major bugs, since it’s a game worth playing once you get past them, and I was left wanting more. One nice touch, though, is that when you finish the main game, you can go back in and replay any of the various puzzles.

Fun Factor:

I am a huge fan of hidden object games, so this was a really, really fun game for me. I loved the free-form way you can explore by touching everything and looking everywhere for hidden items or puzzles. In fact, even with the issues I had with force closing, I kept coming back and finished the game in about two days of near-continuous play.

Addictive:

Yeah, as I mentioned above, once I started, I just couldn’t put it down until it was done. I kept finding myself going back to play just a little bit more. Not even the force close issues could keep me from playing.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are stunning. They’re all hand-drawn, and it’s like playing a work of art. Every screen brings new things to discover and explore, and it’s worth getting this game for the graphics alone. This is one of the few games with additional downloads after purchase that, once I was in and saw why, I didn’t mind taking up space on my device at all.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

Maybe it’s the combination of graphics and gameplay, but after the initial loading, I didn’t even notice the soundtrack. It was there, but unobtrusive, which, to be honest, I appreciated. I was so into the game, I didn’t want anything to distract me from it.

Should you Download Tiny Bang Story? If there were not download and force close issues, I’d be trying to give this game a 6! It’s just that good of a game, that I really hope Herocraft can fix the bugs because Tiny Bang Story is amazing DESPITE the bugs right now. If they fix them, it will be a must-have for every Android user.
