TiKL – Touch To Talk (PTT) Install

TiKL – Touch To Talk (PTT). Instantly talk to one or many of your friends with the touch of a button. All you need is their phone numbers. No more waiting for the phone to ring. Simple and free, TiKL turns your android phone into the ultimate Push To Talk (PTT) Walkie Talkie. No voice plan or SMS used for calls.

Price: Free

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Get Push to Talk technology communication between any Android phone
  • Communication is near instant if both parties are on 3G or 4G
  • Engage in touch to talk conversations with one or many contacts simultaneously
  • Detects simultaneous talking
  • Easily invite others to download the app

Cons

  • Initial contacts setup can be a bit convoluted but manageable
  • Does not work over Wi-Fi, however not meant for stationary communication

Features & Usefulness:

TiKL – Touch To Talk (PTT) is simply Awesome! It allows traditional push to talk technology between any cellular network without dedicated hardware all via the app and the Internet. Dubbed touch to talk, it literally works how it sounds, once your contacts are selected and have the app installed (or easily invite others to download the app) you push or hold the on-screen button and speak to your contact(s).

Unlike other walkie talkie apps that recorded audio and emailed it, this app’s communication is near instant if both parties are on 3G or 4G (does not work over Wi-Fi), with maybe 1-3 seconds delay if not. Engage in touch to talk conversations with one or many contacts simultaneously. Plus it detects simultaneous talking between parties so you can balance out the conversation.

What’s cool is that fact that you can chirp your friend, the app opens for them to continue in a conversation with you. This app has many great uses among people for quicker conversations than calling or texting or even companies who already implore PTT communication.

        Hello guys
Couple of maybe stupid question coming up but:

        1) If you use TIKL does it eat in to your download allowance since its runs over 3G?

        2) Some peeps here have said that i works on wifi. Do both parties have to be on wifi or can one be on 3G (kinda cross-networking) (out wifi to 3G or out 3G to wifi)

        Ta :O)

        • By Michael on July 26, 2010 at 12:47 pm:

          1. Yes, it will use your data allowance.
          2. TiKL will work if one part is on WI-FI and the second on 3G, 4G or even different carriers.

Under cons you have doesn’t work over wifi. In fact it does work over wifi. And the call quality is amazing. I’ve been struggling with sipdroid for months now and you can barely understand one another. This is clear as a bell. It has worked many times on airplane mode with wifi enabled.

Does anyone know how much distance you can put between yourself and the person/people you are talking with? I tried this app, but unfortunately, we lost communication after we were about 10 blocks apart…

    • By Nuzzi on June 28, 2010 at 6:28 am:

There should be no loss off range. May just have been that you went in to a dead service area. You should be able to use the touch to talk application across the country because the signal is going across the cellular 3G or 4G network.

You…are an idiot. 10 blocks or 100 blocks doesn’t matter. The app uses the data network be it wifi or cellular to transmit the audio. I frequently use this app with friends all over the country. Time for you to look into an iphone.

I liked it until I started getting adverts pushed to my phone..
That for me should be listed under CONS…
Other then that, it’s a great app.
I’d PAY for a non advert version and one that I could control how it loads.
I don’t like the fact it installs a boot so no matter what, it’s slowly eating away at my battery..

I have since removed it from my phone. :(

I used his app for about a day and it nice and all but it really sucks up your battery. From my understand it is just sending little audio files back and forward between you and the person you are talking to. So yes it will suck up data and when you are heavy on data usage you battery really suffers. The only time I think I would use this if I was on a road trip doing car to car communication. The thing is walkie talkies work just as well and I rather have a phone with a full battery for a really emergency. So it’s cool app but not really a useful app for the time.

My husband downloaded the TIKL app and was very excited about it. We tried it out and it seemed to work great. Until he got a message from someone he’s never heard of mentioning something that my husband and I were talking about AFTER we’d disconnected from TIKL. This is potential spyware — we took off the phones immediately. Be aware….
