Animated radar & more! Download the power of The Weather Channel to your phone. Thank you to everyone who has provided us with detailed feedback and useful suggestions regarding our new user interface. We strive to build easy-to-use applications while at the same time building navigation that allows for a fuller feature set that is easy to access.
The Weather Channel for Android now includes a new user interface (UI), international language support and integration of TWC’s iWitness Weather resource. The app will offer additional new features, including TruPoint maps and near-HD quality videos, through the end of 2011 exclusively for Verizon Wireless customers with 4G LTE smartphones.
The Weather Channel for Android 3.2 adds new features to improve functionality for consumers using any Android smartphone, including: a new UI for easier navigation between main weather screens and maps, new search with a less imposing search bar, new UI for landscape mode and deletion of the confirmation box on app exit; internationalized to support Spanish and French languages; and it also includes several bug fixes, as TWC continues to optimize the app to address consumer feedback.
Verizon Wireless customers with select 4G LTE smartphones who download the app from V CAST Apps will receive two additional features – near-HD quality videos and animated TruPoint maps. TruPoint technology provides detailed weather conditions accurate up to 2 kilometers, or every 1.5 miles, making it the most accurate local weather information available. The feature offers TruPoint radar, temperature and cloud maps with forecasts up to 6 hours in the future.
The app still includes the content and features such as fully customizable weather maps, animated radar maps, detailed weather conditions and forecasts, severe weather alerts and a notification bar with the current temperature and severe weather alert indicator. It still offers the “find me” function that allows consumers to get weather forecasts for their pinpointed location or search by city, ZIP code, street address or landmark. Customers can decide to display layers such as radar, clouds, UV index, rainfall and more.
