The Weather Channel Android app is the most downloaded weather app, one of the top three most downloaded Android app of all time, and version 3.0 packs new features plus a new user interface. The Weather Channel Free The Weather Channel for Android adds new features – voice search, type-ahead and an all-new navigation bar among others – while still encompassing the enhanced features of its original version, including fully customizable weather maps, animated radar maps, detailed weather conditions and forecasts, severe weather alerts, and a notification bar with the current temperature and severe weather alert indicator.

Key Features of The Weather Channel Version 3.0:

Voice search now allows consumers to obtain weather forecasts by speaking a location, whether by address, city, ZIP code or well-known landmark.
The app now supports type-ahead for quicker location search when typing the destination.
The all-new navigation bar along the bottom of the screen offers swipeable, one-click access to saved locations, current conditions, hourly forecasts, 36-hour forecasts, 10-day forecasts, severe alerts, maps, video and settings.
In addition to the popular location-based local video forecasts, the video section now includes the “must see 6” videos each day from a national collection.
In addition to metric (°C and kph) and English (°F and mph) options for units of measure, a “hybrid” version now offers Celsius and mph for users in the U.K. and Canada.
Severe alerts provide the most up-to-date information for severe tropical weather, winter weather and more. Alerts will now be parsed to process language for easier readability, and consumers will also be able to turn severe weather alert notifications on or off.
In addition, the app incorporates updates to The Weather Channel widget for Android, so customers can opt to view current weather data and severe weather alert indicators on the device home screen.

The app doesn’t work well for Android phones that switch to Landscape mode.

Also, it appears Notifications from the earlier version are gone.

So far, I think there’s work to be done before the new version is usable.

The Weather channel app (ver 3.0) update fails to provide the basics we have come to expect from the Weather Channel. The settings don’t stay “set”, the temp and warnings no longer appear on the notifications bar,it really slowed down my phone and finally crashed it completely. I finally had to uninstall it to get my phone back. It would be better to go back to the previous version, if it can be found.

The app forces closes all of the time on my phone, which is a mytouch 3G on Android 2.2.1, so it is one hundred percent useless. I had to download a different weather app.

Read the comments before installing. No one likes it because it doesn’t work. I’ve found MY-CAST to be a more than adequate replacement.

Agree with the other comments. Very slow, it takes forever for your cities weather to load and it slowed down the phone. I just uninstalled. Wish I could find the old version or otherwise looking for a new weather app.

There are thousands of negative comments about this update in the marketplace. It’s very slow and makes your phone slow too. The new UI is difficult to use, and location selection is very difficult to use. It crashes for many people.

Thousands of users have reported uninstalling the app and moving to Weather Bug.

It’s too bad that a once excellent application has been ruined by an update and there is no apparent response from TWC.

Message to developers – your ad revenue has gone to a competitor.

I agree with above comments. The upgrade is a complete failure. Please let me know how can we install the previous version, which was working perfectly well. You don’t fix which is not broken. Adding some bells and whistles is not upgrade, it actually is bringing down a perfectly working app.

36 hour no longer working, stepping backward not forward with upgrade….. also no longer seesm capable ot locating places that earlier version did…. oh well, did they fire the developers who brought out the new version? hopefully they will do before the next “upgrade”…
