Feb 28, 2013 7:56 AM –
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a fun tycoon style game, full of the rich Simpsons humor. In a nutshell, Homer has blown up Springfield and needs to rebuild it from scratch, finding fellow characters as he goes along. Thankfully he finds Lisa early on so all is not lost! If you enjoy the Simpsons and tycoon-style accumulative gameplay, you just have to check this out.
Price: Free, optional In-app Purchases
Tested on: Nexus 4
Pros & Cons:
- Nice graphics!
- Brilliant sound and vocals!
- Lots of humor!
- Easy to play with great tutorials!
- Begins by satirising the whole tycoon-genre and you kind of hope it will be different, but it is still a game that ultimately hopes you’ll spend money on it.
The Simpsons: Tapped Out is a tycoon game where you have to help Homer Simpson build Springfield from scratch after he accidentally destroyed it. As you recreate missing buildings, characters reappear and they can either help or complete other tasks.
Initially, the game begins with a few jokes that relate to the nature of tycoon-style games and you kind of hope this means it won’t be the same; i.e. it won’t soon be asking for in-app purchases, etc. While it’s refreshing to see this depreciating humor, the game does then want you to make in-app purchases. Thankfully they are not ‘essential’ to progress, but the game is very much geared to encourage you to do so. Now, I think people are of the kind who either do or don’t make such purchases while playing tycoon games, so hopefully you’ll be used to the way it works.
Right, on with the game. Firstly, its chock full of funny as you might expect from a Simpsons game. It’s all very good and brings the game to life. There are two currencies in-game (as with all tycoon titles) and these are cash and donuts. Donuts help things progress faster and are therefore harder to come by, but they certainly motivate Homer!
The graphics are really good too, lots of detail and thoroughly ‘Simpsons’. The content is all original and authentic, so it’s a genuinely immersive experience and you can have confidence that it’s not just a game doing a really bad impression. There are a lot of missions to complete between Homer and many other characters as they appear so you’ll always be doing something different.

If you enjoy tycoon games, this is a winner and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the gameplay. If you also love the Simpsons, it’s even better. The game is full of humor, enjoyable gameplay and engaging characters. There are lots of tasks to complete and this keeps the game very fresh- you never know what you will be doing next and what character you’ll have to employ.
Tycoon games are designed to keep you playing frequently and The Simpsons: Tapped Out is no different. I think this factor is only enhanced by the fact it features diverse gameplay and, of course, the Simpsons!
The HD graphics are extremely good and extremely well designed. Of course the animation is exceptional as the original Simpsons crew are behind it.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is great with authentic Simpsons noises throughout. It’s an official game and it really tells.
