This is a text-to-speech library intended for use by other applications. Pressing “Menu” on the settings screen will take you to a showcase of apps that use TTS.

Text-to-Speech Library gives other Android developers the ability to add audible features to their app (i.e. a turn-by-turn directional app or app that can read email and SMS text messages to you). This app uses a robotic sounding voice library capable if speaking in many languages and paces. It is not to be used standalone, yet invoked by other Android Apps. You can also see a list of Android Apps using TTS. Hopefully this app can evolve to have more realistic dialets when spoken.

Many apps in the market require or support TTS,.. but my gPhone will only display this message when I try to install it:

”
There are no matches in Android Market for the
search: pname:com.google.tts
”

Any ideas?

  I have the same problem on my HTC Desire. Google Translate doesnt work properly cause of this.

    Just go to
    
    Settings -> Voice input and Output -> Text to Speech settings -> Install voice Data
