TeleNav Announces HTML5 Browser-Based Turn-by-turn GPS Navigation, take that Google!
Dec 14, 2011 10:20 AM –
TeleNav, one of the largest global wireless location-based services provider, hit us with an awesome bomb by announcing they will release the first-ever HTML5 web browser based turn-by-turn voice guided GPS navigation service for mobile devices.
What does this means in non-techno jargon? Publishers with mobile websites that depend on, say… attracting customers based on GPS location do not have to send navigation to apps like Google Maps per se. They can add one line of code to their mobile website and give customers full voice-guided turn-by-turn directions to destinations. No need to download an app or even be a TeleNav customer. This innovation will go over swell I imagine with Apple devices as they have been limited in the turn-by-turn navigation department. This is something we expect Google to one-up the industry with, so it will be exciting to see how competitive innovation makes the user experience better for us consumers!
“This is an enormous amount of added value for any mobile, location-based website or app focused on travel, shopping, local search, deals and more,” said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and vice president of products for TeleNav. “With one line of code, you can give your customers one-click access to premium, voice-guided turn-by-turn directions to any location, including hotels, restaurants, merchants or deal locations. Customers never need to leave your app.”
TeleNav is opening the service up to select developers to test the service, others interested in early access can go to www.telenav.com/developer/HTML5
