Taptu 1.5 Brings Better Search and New UI Customization Install

Taptu, a social media and mobile technology company, is releasing Taptu 1.5 for Android, the latest version of its social news reader app. Version 1.5 supercharges search, making it easy to discover more content, while also adding the ability to customize the look and feel of the app.

The search function now scans both for the topic of a stream and for keywords within streams. Because a search engine powers Taptu, it does not depend solely on RSS and social media feeds. This gives customers the chance to search for streams by topic, not just a specific website or blog name.

“Our promise has always been to ensure that no matter what you’re searching for, we’ve got a stream for it. We wanted to give Taptu fans even more ways to discover new content in our app. We wanted to bring even more serendipity to what the app can offer, aside of course, from giving them the ability to customize the app to get exactly the content they want,” said Mitch Lazar, CEO of Taptu.

Taptu 1.5 also brings the ability to resize streams to make them larger or smaller and color code them to get organized. Additional stream settings let customers hide photos or display different sized images, and article pages have been given a layout makeover, delivering full-sized photos and bigger headlines. It also adds related article discovery to the Android app, which has quickly become one of the most popular features on Taptu for iPad.

Writer’s Review Notes:

After playing with the new app for a bit, I have to say, I like it, a lot. The new version fixes my two biggest complaints with the old one, which was how small the pictures were, even when you clicked on an item, as well as the inability to really order your feeds or put them into any kind of groupings. I really like that you can now give each one custom colors – for me, I colored them by category to make it easy to find what I’m looking for in a fast scroll. Then, you can now drag and drop feeds to reorder them in the settings menu, making it even easier to group feeds according to the way you want to read them.

I also love, love, love that the images are bigger when you click on an item. This was my single biggest problem before, as a lot of my feeds are very image-heavy, and not being able to see them clearly made it nearly impossible to use Taptu as a primary reader. All the rest of the features from the original are here, but the UI improvements are a major upgrade and worth checking out.
