Talking Tom Cat 2 is the updated version of the massively popular Talking Tom Cat, which we reviewed. Now living in a nice apartment Tom can be seen doing an entirely different set of actions. Hugely interactive and comprehensively amusing to small children, Talking Tom Cat was the original and best, so how does its successor measure up?
Price: Free, $0.99
Tested on: HTC Desire HD
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- All new set of actions!
- New character involvement- Ben the dog!
- Rich user interface!
Cons
- Not much of a leap from the original.
Features:
Talking Tom Cat 2 is the new chapter that is our favourite feline’s life. Now living in a plush apartment, you can expect high levels of interactivity. The big draw of Talking Tom Cat was the way he listens and repeats back to you. The same feature is significant in Talking Tom Cat 2, although there is an extra option whereby he drags out a giant phone, featuring the app of himself, spiralling your words to a higher and higher pitch. Sound’s great and is pretty fun.
There are different set of buttons to choose from which will make Tom perform range of new actions. He will now play with a yo-yo, give you a rose and fetch a knife and fork for you at your pleadingly. Then there are series of other displays which feature Ben the Dog. Ben has his very own app – Talking Ben, but he appears in Tom’s app purely (it would seem) to torment him. Ben will push a cake in Tom’s face, smack him in the face with a cushion, fart loudly behind him and pop a paper bag which makes Tom leap to the ceiling! Tom gets his own back once- when he scratches Ben when he tries to pop another paper bag, but that’s all the revenge he gets.
You can record your adventures with Tom, and access reams of YouTube videos featuring him too. Additionally you have the looping voice feature, the ability to poke him, etc. and make him purr by rubbing his belly. The app has moved on, but it feels very deja vu and not particularly original anymore. The new features are not particularly revolutionary and, while Talking Tom Cat 2 is fun, I wasn’t particularly blown away by it.

Usefulness:
Still draws children in like a magnet, and there are lots of cool little features. It’s addictive, amusing and like any voice-changing apps, quite funny given the right circumstances.
Ease of Use:
You just tap the screen in different places. He listens automatically if you talk. It’s incredibly simple to use.
Frequently Used:
Talking Tom Cat 2 is one of those novel little apps you get out to show off, or to amuse children or to bemuse older folks. It won’t change your life, but it might make you giggle occasionally.
Interface:
The interface is very smooth and the whole app is highly responsive. The animations are deliciously detailed and polished.
