Square, the payment start-up company created by Jack Dorsey, one of the men who helped launch Twitter, has been all over the news this week with the announcement of two new apps - Card Case for consumers, and Register for merchants. According to Reports on both Android Central and PC World, Google is officially blocking rooted devices from renting movies in it's new marketplace. The error message folks are getting is: "Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49).” According to the reports, Google has made the move due to "copyright restrictions". Right now, since the rentals require Android 3.1, it hasn't been widely tested, but as the rentals trickle down to 2.2+ users, it will be interesting to see if that holds. If it does, there are going to be a lot of very angry people out there who won't hesitate to go to another service like Netflix or Hulu. Read Full Article
The Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF) launched Miro 4, the newest version of its open-source desktop media player that will allow users to manage music, including iTunes libraries, videos, playlists and apps, in one place and to sync these digital libraries with Android devices.
