According to Distimo, an app store statistics aggregation company, Google's Android Market has surpassed 400,000 active Android apps; with an estimated 100,000 active publishers. Most, approximately two-thirds of the inventory in the Android Market can be obtained for free- this an eight percent increase since April 2011 due to the success of freemium apps business model, free to download with purchase opportunities within the app.Read Full Article

When Google Music was in Beta it had an asterisk on it being free to stream your own music library for a limited time, now the service will be free to upload up to 20,000 songs. The greatest feature enhancements offer the ability to discover and purchase music directly from the Android Market (rolling out to Android 2.2+ phones in the U.S. only) or the Android Market Music Webstore. Launching with more than 8 million high quality MP3 songs (encoded at 320kbps), the service will add more in due time. Cheezia has been released for the Android platform, helping to boost the platforms' gaming credentials. The game costs ~$1.14 and is available via the Android Market. In the game, the goal is to pack falling cheeses into packages that match with crates on the conveyor. To do this, players create the package by rotating the mouse wheels. When they think they have the correct package, they tap it to drop it into the crate and see if it goes through quality control. Game features include: Fast-paced arcade gameplay with bonus items and combos; responsive multi-touch controls; cute cartoon graphics; two game modes: ‘Classic’ and ‘Time attack’; and a high-score system, plus 24 achievements.Read Full Article
