Swype Keyboard is unique and an extremely fast method for inputting text on virtual keyboards. Swipe to spell words in one continuous motion or it supports tapping one letter at a time. It can be used in Portrait or Landscape mode. It features easy methods to capitalize the first letter of a word, predictive words, learning library, and you don’t have to perfectly swipe letters for it you figure out what you’re trying to type. Word correction is made easy by double tapping the word then pressing the “Swype Input” button to bring up auto-correction context menu. Features a tutorial within the app which is the best way to learn Swype input.

Virtual keyboards are a difficult aspect to master, Swype takes this common problem and offers a faster, easier and more accurate solution than tapping every letter. Swype’s goal is to offer their keyboard implementation built into all touch screen devices from the OEM offering choice to consumers (See how it broke the world record for texting with the Samsung Omnia II).
I do know some developers who still love their G1 passionately because they need a full physical QWERTY keyboard and Swype might not do the trick for them; though they’re smaller segment of the user base.
How do I Install Swype
Download from the address above. Once installed you have to first enable Swype to have the permission to be used as a keyboard on Android. To do this go to “Settings” » “Language & keyboard” » check Swype. Now that Swype is enabled, from any text input Longpress it and choose “Input Method” » then choose Swype from the list.
Tip on Deleting words with Swype
Longpress “Delete” button automatically deletes full words until you stop pressing it (beats individually tapping each letter to delete).
How to Capitalize the First Letter with Swype
For capital letters without tapping the uppercase button, start from the first letter and swipe up outside the keyboard area then down towards the next letter and complete your word… it will capitalize the first letter.
How do I Type Double Letters with Swype
For double letters like “teen” swivel a little circle on the “e”. This will help avoid typing “ten”. The great thing is that the circle you create does not have to be perfect.
Other Swype Tips
Tap-Hold (or Longpress) Information button gives Tips menu. Tap Swype button gives Swype functions like word correction, add words, remove words, etc.
If used it will be used every time you input text on the virtual keyboard.

Am I doing something wrong? The website says that the beta is closed but I followed the directions on your site anyway. After installing, I need to put in a username and password so I registered on the swype site but the app still isn’t accepting it. Is there a way around this?
after you run the installer and the installation is completed, try resetting your phone. Mine had trouble at first too. I think you can uninstall the installer after (not the program).
I am having the same issue. I tried to reset my phone as per the suggestion by Decalex, but it did not work. The download seems to just install an “installer” which requires a user name and password to get through (and Swype will not give them out right now even if you sign up on their site).
Swype was ok but I think its interface is intrusive, especially when you are typing a word that isn’t in its library, or a password, or website address. I like shapewriter much better.
First off, Swype is available for all versions of Android (in the beta). I’m on (f’in) 1.5, Samsung Moment, and signed up for the beta when it was open. I’ve been using it ever since. The leaked release before the beta was kind of rough– I actually downloaded it from the market, somehow. But the beta version is so much better. I hope, for those who don’t have it, that they open it back up. I tried going back to using the stock keyboard for a day to experiment, and it was painfully slower. Once you get past the swype learning curve, it’s fast and awesome.
Have been using it on Moto Droid and after getting use to it cannot go back to a regular keyboard. It is fast and accurate. Only think I dislike is on the beta if you re-boot the Moto droid you have to delete and reinstall the program. Right now it’s wortth it.
i have the same issue on my Desire HD. But it only takes a min to re-install it and imho, it’s too good a keyboard to let a bit of re-installation get in the way
I could see how Swype is a love it or hate it kind of thing.
Well, put me in the love it category. I’m now OK with not having a hardware keyboard.
This is the sort of thing that made Android attractive to me: choices. In this case it’s the choice of using my G1′s physical keyboard, the stock Android soft keyboard, Swype or any number of 3rd party keyboards.
Does anyone have a name and password I can snag. This beta closed nonsense is killing me.
AndroidApps4U.com has links for the official swype beta.. hope this helps you lou..let me know..
can i use someones user name and password
Just got my new phone the HTC Desire. I wanted to put SWYPE on it but having a problem finding the download. When I go to the Market it tells me I have to have a Samsung Galaxy to use it. Can anyone give me some info or help. Thanks
hi darlene, i’m registered with swype, got email and link off them for the beta version, (i trialed the original one) i was having problems with the site it says downloading, installing, etc….but new beta won’t download/install. so instead i went to market and downloaded free version of slideit….its just the same as swype…hope this helps….i’ve also got htc desire, and it works perfect….
It seems that Swype is OEM supplying its soft keyboard only to manufacturers. However, I’ve installed SlideIt keyboard from Dasur Software, and it works like a charm. The free demo turns into nagware after a week or so, and it doesn’t allow you to permanently save dictionary updates. But, the purchase price of 6 Euros is well worth it for the time saving and ease-of-use.
Absolutely love it!
