Features:
I have to admit, I love Sudoku, so I was interested in trying this version of it. The developer has taken a single-player, leisurely puzzle game and made it into a multi-player, fast paced competition. And to be honest, after trying it, I’m not sure how I feel about it.
The app itself is very well thought out, with a fantastic interface that is polished and easy to navigate, and it comes with a very in-depth tutorial that allows you to play as many practice games as you want to get used to this style of gameplay, which was appreciated. So it’s not the app’s fault that I had a hard time getting into this.
First of all, every time I tried to get on to test it, there was no one else to play with. There just aren’t enough people using it yet, so there was never anyone to actually play a round with. I was able to play the tutorial a few times, but never against another person. The most I ever saw online was one other person besides me, then waited for about a half hour to see if they would start a game, then I tried starting one and waited another half hour to see if they would join. The other person signed out without ever starting a round with me.
Playing the tutorial, I was able to get a good feel for how the game works, however, and I’m of mixed feelings. It’s definitely a new way to do Sudoku, but I’m not sure it’s better, or necessary. As I mentioned above, people who do these puzzles tend to like them because it’s a puzzle you can sit down and work on at your leisure. In this version, you’re filling in a single square, you only have a very limited amount of time to do it, and in multi-player, you’re trying to do it before the other person does. It makes it stressful, quite honestly, and while I’m all for action and multi-player games, I don’t think it really works well for Sudoku. People who like Sudoku probably won’t like this version since it’s not really doing Sudoku puzzles, it’s placing one number in a grid fast enough to get points. And people who like competition games probably won’t look twice at this one, since Sudoku isn’t the kind of thing they usually associate with competition. Which is why I think I never had anyone to play with while testing the app, in addition to the fact that the app is so new.

SudokuPDQ FAQ
Fun Factor:
If you’re looking for a different type of competition game, this might be something you’ll enjoy. Despite the name, I don’t really think of this as Sudoku. You’re not completing a grid, just placing one number, so all it has in common with the regular game is that it’s a grid with a new numbers in it to start. But if you like the thrill of beating other people, you’ll enjoy this version.
Addictive:
This is hard to say, since I was never able to compete against another live person. If you can get a group of friends playing it with you, I can see it being something you’d enjoy, but I don’t see it being a game you just can’t put down, to be honest.
Graphics:
The interface and performance of this game are truly superior to a lot of other games out there. It’s polished and well laid out, and you can tell the developers spent some time making sure it just works. I was very impressed with how the game looks and runs.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The focus of SudokuPDQ doesn’t require any fancy effects or use of vibration or anything.
