Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Making money is fairly easy, so you never feel like anything is completely out of reach!
- There is a decent selection of items to outfit your girl with!
- You can have multiple boyfriends, so you can keep playing the mini games, even when you haven’t gotten all the presents from each of them!
- You can earn diamonds in addition to coins, as well as purchase both in-game!
Cons
- The quests were a bit repetitive and didn’t add much.
- The entire “chat” system was a bit silly since you’re “talking” to a computer.
- The jobs expire quickly, meaning you loose income if you aren’t paying attention to the time.
- I wish there was a wider variety of mini-games to play, with more clothing rewards.
Features:
I’ve played a few of these fashion sims directed at girls, and I don’t mind telling you, I didn’t have high hopes. Usually, there’s just not much there beyond getting and keeping a virtual boyfriend, and while that plays a part in Star Girl, it’s not all there is to the game. In fact, getting boyfriends here is more like a mini-game, to earn presents and cash to buy a better wardrobe.
The clothes, for me, were the draw, and I was surprised by that. I expected it to feel silly, but I found myself logging in to make sure I collected my salary from the various jobs before it expired, so I could save up for better clothes. You also get various items as presents from your boyfriends- and you can have as many of those as you’d like. To get them, you play one of two games, but both involve “flirting” using your energy, coins or diamonds until they hit 100%. You can switch between them- each boyfriend will give you a max of three presents, but the higher ranked guys will give you better stuff. You can switch between the guy you invite home- you earn about one present every 12 hours, but you only have one boyfriend recharging his present gauge at any given time. You can also earn clothes as a reward in the carnival mini-games.
Why do you want to keep changing outfits? You get charm points for articles of clothing, and you’ll need more points to get access to the better class of boyfriend – and the better presents.
The game is still new, so I’m hoping the “coming soon” on some of the stores in the game won’t take too long, since more options would give the game some added attraction. I enjoyed the quests at first, since they gave me something to work toward (I love a good quest…) but it didn’t take long before they were repetitive, or were for things I didn’t care as much about – like sharing photos on Facebook, or getting a specific number of your friends to play as well. I wasn’t interested in the social aspect, and I wished they weren’t pushing that as hard, and were more focused on the core of the game, which is surprisingly addictive. I’d also like to see more mini games put in place. They added a different level that gave me another reason to go log in and check up on my girl.
I also wish they’d do away with or overhaul the “chat’ system. In it, you “talk” to your virtual boyfriends. This, to me, is a bit silly. It’s not a real chat room, so you’re just having a conversation with a robot. Which, granted, you can get an interesting conversation going if your intent is to scam it, but still. I did it once, for the quest points, then never used it again. It doesn’t add anything to the game, in my opinion.
To earn money to feed your clothes habit, you can do jobs in one of three classes – actor, model or singer. And you can have one job going for each class at the same time, which is nice. Obviously, the longer the job will take to complete, the more coins and experience you earn from it. And the higher your level, the longer time frames you can unlock. My only problem here is that I found I was losing a lot of them to “expired” jobs. I hate when games do this, put a time limit on when you can collect. I’d much prefer if they would let me set it to do the jobs, and then just leave it there until I could get back. Either way, I can only earn that set amount until I go back into the game and start a new job, so all it really does is cause a bit of frustration, especially when you’ve set up a 8-12 hour wait, and then can’t get on your phone first thing in the morning and loose it all. You can recover it, but it takes a huge amount of diamonds. You can buy them, of course, but one nice thing is that you can earn them in game. I’d be more likely to buy them if it was just for buying some of the nicer, higher ranked clothes, rather than to save my job money.

Fun Factor:
I was surprised at how fun the game was. I found myself looking forward to going in and seeing what new clothes I could afford, and what things I would get as gifts. It’s a casual game, that’s meant to be checked in on a few times a day, for a few minutes, rather than something you spend a large stretch of continuous time with.
Addictive:
I hated seeing expired jobs, so I found myself trying to remember to go check in based on when I remembered last setting up job times. I found it was a great little game to go pop into when you have a few minutes standing in a line, or waiting somewhere.
Graphics:
The graphics aren’t the focus here, and they are cartoony in look. The focus is on the customization, and there are hundreds of combinations to use to give your girl her own unique look.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
I turned the sound off pretty much straight off the bat. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t adding anything to the game either. I wanted something I could play standing in a line without having everyone stare at me from the goofy music. Fortunately, it was easy to adjust in the settings.
