Sprint Visual Voicemail now with Voicemail-To-Text service

Five minutes ago I was presented with a message stating that the voicemail application needed to be updated on my Evo. Great! I use YouMail anyway but I thought I’d update anyway to see what new features are added (if any). Behold a new service called Voicemail-To-Text for Visual Voicemail users.

Voicemail-To-Text is a service that will transcribe your voicemail into text and then presented into the Voicemail app. This would make it easier to see what’s said on the voicemail at a a glance. It could be useful while in an area that may require you to have your phone on silent (work, library, opera performance). The service offers a free trial for 30 days to start. Once the trial is up, the subscription will automatically cancelled and then remind you if you’d like to upgrade to the monthly service priced at $1.99 per month.

I haven’t been able to find a press release any information anywhere that stated this update would be forthcoming. I’m unable at this time to tell what devices it will effect but for now expect any Sprint device running Android using Visual Voicemail will get this update through the market.

I saw this come up today as well. I’m disappointed in Sprint for adding on these little random charges everywhere. First the $10 for the EVO, $30 for WiFi hotspot, and now this, especially when its available for free just by downloading Google Voice. Its nice to see them offering things other carriers aren’t, but seriously?

I think you misunderstood because no where is this service free online anywhere. It comes with google speak so you can do google searches by speaking and can also speak your texts.

For just $1.99 per month this service would be great for me especially when at work. I could see my voicemails on my phone as a text. I am on the phone with Sprint now and they are saying there is no such service yet though :( Hope it starts soon.

I think it’s only available for select phones. You might want to call back and speak to a different rep. If you have Visual Voicemail on your phone (like on my Evo), you should be able to get the service. Another great alternative is using Youmail.

No where is what free online? I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Google Voicemail transcription has existed for quite a while and has always been free…

You probably think I’m talking about Google Voice Search. I am not. I’m talking about Google Voice the service.

The only problem is that it only works for English, Im half Brazilian half Puertorican so my family and friend left me voice mail in Spanish and Portuguese so unless this crappy software recognize any language is useless for the rest of the population… USELESS

I two received this on my Moment and was thrilled at the prospect of being able to read my voice-mail and thought if it works it might be worth 1.99 a month. Now toward the end of my free trial I find my self enjoying the service not because i can stop listening to my voice-mail bu t because the text is often fairly funny but never accurate. as one message came in from my male assistant telling me he would be late for work. Sprint text was as follows.
I Account. I’m running a couple minutes late. i wanted to let you know. Shelly there you know I we’re slow marrow I’m so I’m Pregnant. Bye.
So I Think no not 2.00 a month funny better jokes for free on the web

LOL @ your transcription. My visual voicemails are always really off too which I find amusing. However, I don’t want to pay $2 a month for jokes either.

I’d also like to know how to deactivate this app – I find it quite annoying. Also, beware, when I installed it it wiped out everything on my phone – all contacts, text messages, etc. were deleted!! Things like this are making me want an iPhone.

Did you find away to turn off the voicemail to text service? I’ve been calling Sprint for the last 3 days trying to find out how to turn off this service, so I decide to look online and found this site.

I have spent over 3 hours on phone with sprint customer service and they don’t know how to turn it off either. The subscription did not stop after 30 days and they began charging me. They are basically FORCING me to purchase this OPTIONAL feature.

Open voicemail. Menu / Settings / Manage Subscriptions. Choose “unsubscribe”

At least that’s how it works on my HTC Evo.
