Spirit Catcher is quite the challenging physics puzzle game. Similar to titles like Cut the Rope, yet different, and your goal is to free three ghouls by ending them, as their souls float away, you must guide them to the Spirit Catcher. It features tons of levels that grow insanely difficult. So you must master it with keen wit, timing and the ability to multi-task to free the spirits and land of evil darkness.
Price: $1.99, plus optional In-app purchases
Tested on: Samsung Galaxy S3
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Totally challenging & addictive physics puzzle game!
- Gets progressively tougher as you advance!
- Good mix of popular mobile gaming mechanics and multi-tasking to score well!
- Lots of levels and worlds to play plus the developers will add more!
Features:
Spirit Catcher is like a mash-up of some familiar titles as far as gaming mechanics go; the physics resolutions skills of Cut the Rope, the box knock downs of Angry Birds, and even their comical snickers of those antagonists at your failures. With your scythe, you slash suspended chained objects (or glass blocks and cannons), to knock them down or cause a chain-reaction that will relinquish the spirits from the three ghouls. Once the spirits are free, slide them along the shortest path that not only leads them to the Spirit Catcher (the whirl thingy) but to collect the colored orbs scattered about. Collecting these stacks your bonus points, collect two or more of the same color and they multiply.
The game gets progressively difficult as you must attempt all of this with great timing and skill. This pays off in the form of in-game currency called “Skill Points” which you can use to power-up your character’s Power (increases the path length the spirit must travel to the catcher), Speed (which increases the spirit’s travel time ), Time (which increases the extra bonus skill points) and Spirit Bombs (for destroying all visible creatures). There is also the option to purchase Skill Points within the app with real cash to accelerate things.
Like aforementioned game titles, you must earn enough stars to progress to the next world. There are currently 90 levels among 3 worlds with more to come.
Spirit Catcher has an opening comic book style story-line which leads into an interactive tutorial on how to play, but I felt it was stunted in effectiveness and personally learned the best way to play the game was by looking at the preview vid below:

Fun Factor:
Spirit Catcher is more challenging than fun, however, puzzle fans will appreciate the timing and skill set needed to advance well in some levels.
Addictive:
This game hooks you after the first round. In fact, you will find yourself repeating rounds just to achieve all the bonus points and stars in that level. It definitely has a good repetitious aspect to it.
Graphics:
The graphics are brightly colored. A unique theme that spans you from all stretches of the evil forest.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The background music is a cool ethnic flute driven tune, it suits the theme of the game quite well. It can be toggled in-game from the gear icon on the bottom left but it accompanies enough to keep it playing and not muted.
