SpaceCat (3D). If you love space and you love cats- then what better than SpaceCat (3D)?! It is a funny yet challenging new game that puts you in control of a little flying saucer which contains one very precocious kitty. The idea is to tilt your phone from side to side to move, tapping the screen to power the saucer. Don’t crash or kitty will complain and you lose life. You have to navigate the tunnels to reach the yellow landing pad to complete the level. Meow!

Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Lots of humor.
- Easy to understand controls.
- Challenging gameplay.
- Very addictive.
- Superb graphics.
- Great sound.
- Ability to customize your saucer and cat.
Cons
- The graphics are 3D, however gameplay is really 2D. This isn’t really an issue with the game but a little misleading if you expect to compare it to other 3D games in the Android Market.
- I’m not a fan of the marketing model they use to be honest. While the game is free you have to buy in-game PillCoins to customize. You can also earn these by referrals.
Features:
I really like cats. I have one myself called Huxley and he loves tuna. Perhaps it is because of this that I always seem to notice apps that have cats in. Perhaps this explains why I’m now reviewing the fantastic SpaceCat (3D) game from developers The Pill Tree, who also created Chalk Ball.
OK, so you’re in control of a saucer. Although the cat will kind of take credit if you do a good job. However if you crash the cat complains at you for doing so. Fickle creatures aren’t they? What’s with that? The purpose of the game is to navigate your cat and saucer around a set of tunnels in order to catch the floating SpaceRats (the cat does that for you) and land safely on the yellow landing pad. In your way are moving walls, laser force-fields (extremely bad for your cat), dips and all manner of obstacles. Some tunnel sets are quite long and you can find a re-fuelling pad to get more fuel on board. There are also medi-packs to collect if, due to crashing, your life is low. Reach the yellow landing pad and watch as kitty milks every drop of praise for your efforts. I think most people with a cat will recognize this kind of self-righteous behavior!
You can alter the look of your cat and saucer as there is lots of models and themes. Sadly you have to pay for these aesthetics, but you can earn the all-important PillCoins by referrals to other players. You can also earn PillCoins playing Chalk Ball. A fair amount of thought has gone into this aspect of the game, but I’m unsure how many people will actually crack into their Paypal accounts just to make kitty look like a hippy. The game is still very much in development- although it’s clear the engine is there- and The Pill Tree plan to release more levels and lots more themes and models to alter the look of your cat and saucer.
The game should work on most devices, even low end ones, although the game on these phones have a lower quality feel to them. It played a dream on my HTC Desire HD.
You can choose between Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty; I think you seem to have less fuel on the harder difficulties. You can also pick between ‘Arcade’ and ‘Realistic’ controls. Realistic controls are much more sensitive and harder to manipulate, so it might be worth trying ‘Arcade’ when you first get your paws on the gameplay.

Fun Factor:
The humor alone makes this game very playable. The cat is lots of fun, bowing and taking credit for completing a level. Kids will, of course, adore it and there is some very challenging game-play to be had for all.
Addictive:
Hell yes! The tunnels and game-play are critically very immersive and you’ll want to progress further into the game. It especially has that ‘one more try’ factor with levels you struggle on. Get stuck in and you might even dream about it.
Graphics:
Graphics are very cool and in 3D, although the game play really is a 2D experience- moving from side to side and up and down. This doesn’t really disappoint however- the graphics are smooth, beautiful, funny and bright. It’s also worth noting the menu and navigation graphics are incredibly polished and easy to use.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The accelerometer controls are crucial to the game and you need to master these to progress. It’s not too hard though- especially on Arcade. The sound effects are simple but good- clapping and beeps when you complete a level, wailing “mmeeooww”s when you hit a wall, all really good and well thought out.
