The Soundmatters foxLv2 PLATINUM Bluetooth Speaker is a portable speaker system- the top grade offering from Soundmatters. It features high fidelity audio transferred via Bluetooth or 3.5mm audio plug. Therefore you can conduct calls, play or stream music from your smartphone or tablet device. When plugged into a subwoofer it can complete your small office audio setup. Is it worth more than $200 on the price tag? Let’s find out more in this review!

Soundmatters foxLv2 PLATINUM Bluetooth speaker is pint-sized yet packs a powerful punch! In a smaller space i.e. home or work office, or average sized living room, this lil guy can fill the room with high fidelity audio either via Bluetooth or plugged in with 3.5mm stereo mini-jack (Audioquest Special Edition Interconnect gold tip male/male 3.5mm plug included!) You can play music stored on your phone or stream from top music discovery apps like Pandora or even Youtube. It has up to 30 foot Bluetooth range and when speaking with someone at that distance you can speak at normal volume and your caller hears you as if you were right in front of the speaker. If you travel like myself I can see great use cases of this plugged into a laptop in the hotel room (no Bluetooth support there), as a portable conferencing system or at the beach!

I value that it is super easy to setup (if you plug it in, setup becomes a no-brainer). Often when I evaluate tech gadgets I do so without looking at the manual (since most of us neglect it until forced to use it.) There was no need here, which was a good thing. Simply turn the speaker on, ensure “Bluetooth” setting on your phone/tablet is enabled and select “foxL” from the list of available Bluetooth devices. No pairing codes needed, it just connects and works (if you are prompted for pair code it is 0000). When I did consult the user manual, it unearthed a slew of features such as; its compatibility with subwoofers, charge by USB or wall outlet, comes with wriststrap and it has accessories to clamp to a bicycle, plus you can stop it from “walking” on a hard surface using the non-slip pad included.
Soundmatters offers two cheaper models for $149 & $199, the former doesn’t support Bluetooth streaming but the latter does. The Platinum version we’re reviewing is their special edition with bonus cables and audio profile that boosts Bluetooth audio quality to CD-like fidelity when paired with other apt-X enhanced source devices.

It has solid build quality with sexy compact design. It comes in black or platinum colors. The portable aspect is a proven selling point, it fits in the palm of the had just like in the product photo. The microphone for phone calls is visible on the front. On the sides you find inputs for charging or outputs, and on the back are volume rockers, power switch and kickstand to let the BassBattery breathe and boom.
