Songify, the hugely successful music app that turns your speech into singing, is now available on Android. Whether you like the sound of your own voice, or are generally tone-deaf, Songify is loads of fun and easy to use.
Price: Free, plus in-app purchases of additional backing tracks.
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Lots of fun!
- Lots of songs to choose from!
- Online chart and the ability to hear other users tracks!
Cons
- Occasional force-closures.
- Sometimes have to wait a while for tracks to load.
Features:
Songify is a simple app that Auto-tunes your voice in the style of your chosen backing track. It’s a curious sensation listening to your voice like this but quite funny. To do this, simply press the central button in the app and say some words, or even try singing a few (it doesn’t matter if you sound bad!) The app then converts your voice into one which suits the music you have chosen as backing.
There are three or four backing tracks in the app but others you have to download separately and they cost money via in-app purchasing. You essentially buy in-game credits, but you can get quite a few songs for the equivalent of a few dollars. These songs are separated into various genres, including: What’s Hot, Rap Songs, Gregory Brother’s Hits, Club Beats, Rock, Pop, Country and Comedy. Most of these cost money, but you can earn free coins by downloading other apps.
Your main screen consists of a large speaker button in the centre which allows you to record your song. Below there are three buttons, one for your previously recorded tracks, the song store and the charts. In the charts section you can listen to other people recordings as well as like and share. Some are great, some are not-so-great and lots are just funny.
The only problem I experienced with this app really was the fact it force closed quite a lot. Quite a few times the app seemed to die so I’m not entirely convinced of its stability. Also this isn’t an app if you’re looking for something really professional… there isn’t many settings and it’s really just for fun. It’s novel, however, and very popular already on iOS so worth a look.

Usefulness:
OK, so there’s nothing overly useful about Songify, but it’s a novelty app that is lots of fun.
Ease of Use:
The app is incredibly easy to use and you can be recording your own tracks in no time at all. The navigation is simple and it’s easy to find your way around with big buttons and intuitive controls.
Frequently Used:
So maybe this isn’t an app you use every day, perhaps at weekends, or when playing with children (my kids love this app). Either way it’s an app for occasional use.
Interface:
The interface is very well designed and looks pretty good. You tend to expect that with apps that have been popular on iOS and the same applies to Songify. I did find some elements a little slow to load but this aside it was very good.
