A simple app that shows a popup dialog when an SMS is received (similar to the iPhone) but also includes their contact photo.

SMS Popup is a utility to enhance SMS Text Message notifications for Android powered phones. Normally when a SMS text comes in, dependant on the SMS client you’re using (such as the default Messaging or ChompSMS), you will only get notified via LED light, audible sound/vibrate, or actually waking the phone up from sleep state to open an app to read a SMS Text. With SMS Popup, you get instant visual notification in addition to the aforementioned in the form of a small popup window atop most applications you’re running or whether the phone is in sleep state.

By default, you can easily read your entire message, Reply (which launches your SMS client) or Close the SMS Popup window. We’ll delve into the additional configurations you can set if the stock defaults don’t work for you:

• Control screen timeout to display anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.
• Privacy concern? Control how much of the message displays.
• Have the SMS text marked as “Read” or not.
• Show a Delete button along side the Close and Reply buttons.
• Set notification ringtone using apps like Rings Extended.
• Set notification vibration, LED color and even reminders. (Note: In using the latter two, you should disable these settings in your SMS client as to avoid duplicate notifications.)
