While SlideMe might seem like a good alternative to the Google Market in countries where paid applications are not available, developers beware. You are dealing with a third party that is interested in making money just as much as you are. Payments will be delayed and their priority is most certainly not with your game or app.

An alternative to consider (and I would welcome some commentary) is the in-game billing services that are coming available now. Two that come to mind are MyWaves (www.mywaves-inc.com) and Bango (www.bango.com).

MyWaves embeds some code in your free, limited app that presents a splash screen where users can download the full, paid version from the Android market or download that same full version from their network for free (in exchange for participating in some simple advertising promo...like joining a social network for free).

Bango is more of a classic in-game purchasing function that i am not currently clear whether Google sanctions for use in Android Market games. Still studying this solution, so I don't have a lot to add yet on this.

Hello!

I would like to share my experience on this topic, please.

We develop an application, investing hundreds of night-hours on it. Then, if we wish to sell it, Google does not allow us to sell in the market. "Canadian vendors not allowed in the market".
Ironically, they did take our 25 US dollars for the privilege of giving our free apps to the users, but no way to sell.
So we put a LITE app in the market, and a paid app in Slide ME. The users see the LITE, free app in the market and ask for more and more features, for free. Nobody buys the paid app.

This can go on for a while, but how long will it be until the good developers burn out and stop developing?

In the iPhone store, the good apps are making nice money out of it (the best 5 apps make roughly 3000-4000 US$ a day). In the Android market, the absolutely best 5 sold apps (not mine, unfortunately) are making around 30-60 dollars a day.

Free apps are nice, but they don't put food on my kids table, right?

Best regards,

Ari

@Aleksey: I suspect SlideME might have more paid applications simply because most developers don't need alternatives to distribute free apps. If they can't use Android Market for whatever reason, there are plenty of places they can stick a free .apk download, including having a download link on their app home page. So developers who cannot use Android Market to list paid apps, or can't deal with complex sales tax/VAT issues Android Market leaves them to deal with themselves, prefer SlideME.

anyone can get all the free apps from android market. The problem is that not every country can get paid apps and slideme tries to solve that problem.
