I’m happy to announce a brand new update the Skype Android app that now allows calls over 3G worldwide. Yes, this includes the U.S. It appears, as of now, the company was able to fix their biggest hurdle over providing free Skype-to-Skype and Skype-to-phone calling over 3G networks due to a privacy vulnerability within the Android app. Per the Skype Blog, this has been fixed and the new version of the app is available on the market now.
For those who travel often and use Skype for personal and business use, this is great news! Imagine being able to call internationally to the UK over your own 3G network without international calling fees. Just remember that call quality will vary depending on network and signal strength. Wifi is still the preferred method but fear no more: You can call just fine on any network, not just Verizon.
