Skyfire 4.0 Officially Launches

Skyfire launched the 4.0 version of it’s Android browser, with a host of new features. The biggest features all revolve around the SkyBar, which is now customizeable and offers more services for users to choose from including Facebook, Google Reader, Groupon, Twitter, Share (which allows you to share the page you’re on with friends), News & Finance, and Sports. In addition, the video features of the browser have been updated. Thumbnail videos no longer load automatically, instead waiting for you to press the Video button on the SkyBar.

The browser now has a video optimization feature as well, to reduce battery drain and data costs. This is available for a one-time add-on fee of $2.99. Verizon customers can get the upgrade free for a limited time. SkyFire 4.0 is available now on the Android Market, we’ve placed convenient tools above and below:

How do I get the video add on for free? I am a Verizon customer, and it says the video add on costs $2.99 in the market.

  It should be in the Verizon portion of the market, rather than in the main market listing. I don’t have Verizon so I couldn’t test that – let me know if it’s not there!

  Skyfire did not appear in the verizon section of the market. However when I ran skyfire for the first time it displayed a message claiming the premium video feature is free for verizon customers. I am not sure how to confirm that though.

    Okay, our resident Verizon person has told me that when you download Skyfire and run it for the first time, a message should pop up saying you’re a Verizon customer so you get the free video add on without needing to download anything else!
