AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Very easy way to annotate, sign and add elements to any PDF file.

Cons

  • As far as I can tell, the only difference between the “pro” version and the standard is the ability to geo-tag.
  • The ability to print directly from the device to a networked printer is iPad-only right now.

Features:

As anyone who has ever had to sign anything for someone who is not right next to you can attest, the process is a pain. It usually involves having a PDF sent to you via email, printing it out, signing it, then scanning it back into a PDF and re-emailing the new document. That’s a lot of steps. :-? SignMyPad is aiming to eliminate most of them. :P

The app allows you to add PDFs to your device, and from there, you can modify it in several ways, including signing the screen, and adding that to your PDF. You can also add elements like check boxes, so this app would work great for any PDF form you have to fill out, not just a document requiring a signature.

It is very easy to use, with each of the types of elements you can add in a menu that’s called “Add Elements.” Each one is very intuitive, and I actually didn’t even have any problems getting my signature into the app, using my stylus I keep for taking notes on my tablet to sign it as I would any piece of paper, and it worked perfectly.

There were only two real problems I had with the app. The first was more of a complaint – while you can email the PDF from your device in the Android version, you can’t print directly to a networked printer like you can if you were using the same app on the iPad. I want this feature added, since it eliminates yet another step if you have to have a printed copy of the final document. The second is that the company offers a “pro” version that’s actually a huge price jump from the regular one. And at least as far as I could tell, the only difference is the ability to geo-tag your PDFs. I can’t off-hand think of any real use for that unless you’re in a few very specific professions, and to go from a $4 app to $20 for one feature seems a bit steep. (Developers, if I’ve missed something that makes the pro stand out, tell us in the comments!)

Usefulness:

If you ever need to sign a document or fill out a form, this is going to be your new best friend. It must makes life easier, faster and more efficient.

Ease of Use:

I was up and running with this app pretty much immediately. You just point the app toward the PDF you want to modify, and go to town.

Frequently Used:

Depending on your profession, this could be an app you use multiple times a day, every day. However, even if you only need to fill out the occasional form or sign a few documents a month, this is an app you will keep returning to.

Interface:

The interface for the most part keeps the focus on your PDF documents. The menu to select which elements to add pops up, and once you make your selection, it disappears again, so you can focus the whole screen on the document you’re working on.

Should you Download SignMyPad? I docked this app a bit for the lack of direct printing in Android, since honestly that’s an incredibly useful feature lacking here. However, that aside, this is a solid, very useful app anyone that who ever has to fill out anything from a PDF should immediately go out and try.

    Developer here!!!

First off – thanks so much for reviewing SignMyPad. We really do appreciate you taking the time to look at our product.

Second – to answer your question – yes SignMyPad Pro’s main feature difference is the Geo-tagging. You can also sign in red ink. The reason for the price difference? Geo-tagging is pretty much for those who NEED that legal backup. Plus SignMyPad is the only product on the market (that we know of to-date) that does such a feature in this field.

    Thanks so much.

Tim – right now there is no plans to bring SignMyPad to the Playbook – only b/c we are still worried about how low their numbers have been. There are ways to get android apps on the playbook (so i’ve heard) – it should work that way.

      Thanks
