SHADOWGUN is a graphically incredible 3D shooter/explorer game. You are John Slade (although you look like a beefed-up Bruce Willis) and you are a bounty hunter in the year 2350. Track down an evil maniac in his mountain fortress and take out everything that stands in your way. John Slade doesn’t do subtle so, using a slew of powerful weapons and the assistance of S.A.R.A (a kind of beefed-up Siri), take down this evil genius with extreme prejudice!

Features:
Shadowgun is a thrilling and action-packed 3rd person shoot-em-up where you get to infiltrate a mysterious mountain lair belonging to the megalomaniacal Dr. Edgar Simon. Collect and upgrade your weapons, find cover and peek out from behind it to take out the swathes of evil henchmen desperate to see you killed.
OK, so straight off the bat, the graphics are truly awesome. Featuring detailed and smooth animations, stunning use of light and zero lag, this is pure console quality that is just amazing. As you move through various environments each experience is different, backdrops are richly created and make for deeply immersive gameplay.
The combat situations (essentially as you move into a new area, baddies come out, you kill them and then move to the next area) are very good. Enemy UI is quite uncanny and they prefer to take cover themselves. You’ll need to use good strategy to avoid being killed and obviously have an itchy trigger finger and a good aim!

Controls consist of four main buttons and you have the ability to move your finger across the screen to look around you. On the left you have the virtual thumbstick for moving around and on the right there is the fire/action button, reload button and change weapon button. These are all quite discreet and don’t take up too much space. I did find a small conflict in trying to look around using your right thumb (which you also use to shoot) to look around as you sometimes inadvertently press fire instead. This isn’t the end of the world, but if you’re trying to manoeuvre yourself into a good shooting position before opening fire this kind of gives your location away earlier than you would have liked.
The game’s plot moves along with each area you explore. You interact with S.A.R.A an intelligent personal Android assistant and she advises your progress and reveals parts of the storyline the more you advance.
All-in-all Shadowgun is a top Android gaming experience with lush visuals, fun gameplay and a riveting storyline. The game can be played with multiple players over Wi-Fi in real-time as debuted in this video from CES 2012. There is the odd frustration with the controls as detailed above, but this aside it’s a top game.

Shadowgun – Backstory
Fun Factor:
What’s not to love about running around shooting alienesque baddies in rich environments with a slew of powerful weapons? Such has been part of gaming DNA since DOOM. Shadowgun is a compelling and enjoyable adventure that looks incredible and plays really well.
Addictive:
It’s not addictive in the same way that tossing bundles of feathers at matchstick buildings is addictive, but it’s certainly captivating and you’ll want to progress through the game and find the sinister Doctor.
Graphics:
The graphics are flawlessly beautiful. If in any doubt, check out the cool lighting effects and warm colours in every level, mind blowing and definitely console quality throughout.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is immense and works perfectly with the game. From searing music in the background to gunfire sound effects, dialogues between S.A.R.A and John and plenty of juicy explosions here and there.
