Sentinel 3: Homeworld is a jaw-droppingly visceral gaming experience on Android. It’s firmly in the tower defense genre but the mesmerising graphics are dense gameplay make it a truly exceptional title. The latest in the Sentinel series, the game was part of the Android 10 Billion download sale. If you’re a fan of tower defense, Sentinel 3: Homeworld might be the most vivid and stunning you’ll have seen.

Pros & Cons:
Pros

- Immersive sound and high quality music!
- Over 20 towers to use, plus cool secondary weapons!
- 20 campaign levels of intense mayhem!
- 3 different modes: Campaign, Endless and Classic!
Cons
- Very occasional graphic glitches in the menu system.
Features:
Sentinel 3: Homeworld is an utterly beautiful game. High definition visuals are not exactly new on Android, but they stand out when they are as blindingly gorgeous as those featured here. Strong, vivid color, incredible effects and lighting, detailed baddies and turrets, plus a variety of exquisitely rendered locations and backdrops. Good graphics however do not always make the game, so what else does Sentinel 3: Homeworld offer?
Gameplay is typical tower defense fare, set your towers/turrets in the right locations and watch them blast away at the oncoming enemy waves. The game adds some diversity here, as firstly it has a whopping 20 different towers to choose from and secondly there are often specific structures to defend, rather than just a certain number of waves to survive.
You have campaign mode, which is essentially the bedrock of the title and progress through this unlocks maps on both the Endless and Classic modes. Campaign features a basic storyline and plot and presents new maps and gradually increases the variety of towers at your disposal. Classic mode lets you choose which maps or levels you want, without the storyline and continuation. Endless mode is just that; an endless flurry of destructive aliens and the challenge is to last as many waves as possible.
Scoring is completed through OpenFeint, so you might find a number of friends on there playing already, and now you can compete with them!
There isn’t much to dislike about Sentinel 3: Homeworld, especially if you can overlook the stark imperialistic undertones. I’ve seen a number of complaints in the Android Market regarding having a large file to download, but I think this is something to be expected from a title such as this. When the Android sale was active, the developers Origin8 appeared to have a lot of trouble keeping up with the data pack demand but this issue seems to have been rectified now. The only problem I had with the game was that, very occasionally, the game wouldn’t quite load properly; it seemed to freeze on the opening screens and I’d have to reset. This nominal issue aside, Sentinel 3: Homeworld is an incredible tower defense game that is not only worth the money, it is also one of the most compelling and playable tower defense games available in the Market.

Fun Factor:
Sentinel 3: Homeworld is tons of explosive fun as you fight off the onslaught of alien-kind. There is plenty to get immersed into; from the 20 levels to work though, 20 or more turrets to acquire, challenging endless and classic modes, in addition to the blistering graphics and a brilliant soundtrack. The game oozes fun in every corner.
Addictive:
Highly! With all the levels of complete and weapons to accumulate, completest will rightly admire the potential longevity of the game. Further, the inclusion of the OpenFeint social scoring platform means you can compete online for the best scores.
Graphics:
Graphics are intense and mesmerising from the word go. Luscious visuals that scintillate across every screen and map. There are epic levels of detail here too as each weapon garnishes the screen with unique explosions and effects; from blazing electricity bolts to heavy bombing shells and laser shots, it’s all finely developed and beautifully delivered in this game. Pretty much as flawless as you can expect on the Android platform.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is utterly impeccable. The exclusive music from dubstep/drum n’ bass producers ‘Specimen A‘ makes the whole game rock with brilliant audio. It gives the game a whole additional level of quality and is just sublime to listen to while playing. Really high octane stuff!
